Welcome back to Sports Obsessive. Now that the Royal Rumble is in our rear view mirror, we are certainly on the road to WrestleMania. Before we get to the ‘Show of Shows’, we do have a couple of stop-offs. The first of which is the Elimination Chamber. The Elimination Chamber has been a proving ground so to speak since its inception in November 2002. Despite the lack of fans in attendance, 2021 will be no different,
The Sports Obsessive Team is back with their predictions. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Bobby Lashley (c) vs Matt Riddle vs Keith Lee For The WWE United States Championship
James: As I write this, there is speculation that Keith Lee may be forced to miss out on this match. Taking that into consideration, I don’t believe that Keith Lee would go over in this match if he were to participate. I would much rather see Lee traded over to SmackDown and begin a pursuit for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Lashley has been a dominant Champion during his second reign. I feel it’s time for a change. I can certainly see Riddle as WWE United States Champion, although I’m not sure how long it would last.
Neil: God loves a trier, but Vince McMahon loves big, sweaty men. So Lashley, even if Lee is in the bout.
Jon: Keith Lee may or may not end up in this match. Either way, as much as I hate to say it, it really doesn’t matter. If Vince really doesn’t see anything in the Limitless One, he’s dead in the water. That leaves us with Riddle, who Vince supposedly is a fan of, and the defending United States Champion, Bobby Lashley. My head says the Almighty, but my heart says the Original Bro. I don’t know if Vince is all the way in on Riddle just yet. Lashley probably retains.
Katrina: Since they are doing this again and Matt lost the last match, I’m going with Matt this time. Gotta be a payoff for him somewhere.
James’ Pick: Matt Riddle
Neil’s Pick: Bobby Lashley
Jon’s Pick: Bobby Lashley
Katrina’s Pick: Matt Riddle
Raw’s Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs AJ Styles vs Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton vs Sheamus vs Kofi Kingston
James: Drew has been on one hell of a run, from winning the Championship at WrestleMania to dropping it for a short period, only to regain it on an episode of Raw. When we look at this match, the WWE Superstars that are least likely to win this match have to be Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles. I don’t see a Championship reign in the cards for either of them at this point in time. Kofi-Mania was great but it was organic—that’s why it worked.
I see Randy Orton tearing through the other participants in this match, only to be left in the final three alongside McIntyre and Sheamus. If the pencil were in my hand, I would have Sheamus Brogue-Kick Orton through the pod so that we could let McIntyre and Sheamus have their moment and build towards a fresh rivalry.
Neil: Drew to retain. The Fiend to show up and murder Randy Orton. The Miz to cash in early, only for Sheamus to brogue kick him into the middle of next week, setting up Drew/Sheamus for WrestleMania.
Jon: Any of these men are capable of winning this match, which is why they are all former WWE Champions. But I feel like Drew McIntyre will retain his title here. I just don’t see the Scottish Psychopath dropping the WWE Championship before WrestleMania.
Katrina: I want to go with Drew on this because I can see him and Sheamus at WrestleMania. However, I’m going with Sheamus and maybe a rematch at WrestleMania.
James’ Pick: Drew McIntyre
Neil’s Pick: Drew McIntyre
Jon’s Pick: Drew McIntyre
Katrina’s Pick: Sheamus
Raw Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs Lacey Evans (w/ Ric Flair)
James: Is Evans legitimately pregnant? There are conflicting reports, some suggesting that this is a work and others reporting that it’s a shoot. If ‘The Sassy Southern Belle’ is pregnant, there is no way that she’s going over. Surely? I don’t know how to predict this one because, for once, WWE has me stumped. I like Lacey Evans and would like to see her as Champion but realistically, I’m not sure which way this is going to go. I’m going to assume that there were be a massive swerve right before this match that takes Evans out of the equation.
Neil: This has confused me to buggery. I don’t know if this is a work or if Evans is, as some sites claim, legitimately pregnant. If she’s not then I expect her to win by using her storyline pregnancy to her advantage, and if she is then I fully expect her to use her real-life pregnancy to her advantage. Evans for the win.
Katrina: As Lacey is preggo, I’m going with Asuka.
James’ Pick: Asuka
Neil’s Pick: Lacey Evans
Katrina’s Pick: Asuka
SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber Match (With The Winner Facing Roman Reigns For The Universal Championship Immediately Afterwards): Jey Uso vs KO vs King Corbin vs Sami Zayn vs Cesaro vs Daniel Bryan
James: First of all, Sami Zayn isn’t going to win because if he did, there would no longer be a conspiracy against him. You can expect Cesaro to deliver the breakout performance of this match. If you didn’t catch his appearance on Talking Smack, check it out here.
Realistically, I want KO to stand tall at the end of this one and go on to challenge Reigns once again. Will I get what I want? Maybe, maybe not. I guess only time will tell. I’m pulling for KO.
Neil: Doesn’t matter. Whoever wins will get slaughtered by Reigns. If Vince is feeling vindictive it’ll be Bryan, but more than likely it’ll be Uso and we’ll have another finger poke of doom on our hands.
Jon: Who will win the grand prize of facing WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns immediately following the elimination chamber match? I’m honestly having a hard time picking this one. But I do have a theory. I’m going to go with Cesaro, who it feels like is maybe getting a push and heading into a feud with Seth Rollins after this.
Katrina: Cesaro. I don’t care about Boring Corbin or Sami. We’ve seen Kevin many times vs Roman and Daniel is cool and all, but I think it’s Cesaro’s turn to shine.
James’ Pick: Kevin Owens
Neil’s Pick: Jey Uso
Jon’s Pick: Cesaro
Katrina’s Pick: Cesaro
Roman Reigns (c) vs The Winner of SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber Match For The Universal Championship
James: Similar to Daniel Bryan’s journey to the top at WrestleMania 30, I see KO being the challenger in this match after going through hell in the Elimination Chamber match. However, Reigns is going to swallow KO whole.
Not that I don’t believe in KO, this is more about the Roman Reigns character and his captivating storyline. KO will bring the fight to Reigns but once again, Roman will reign supreme.
Neil: Reigns by a country mile.
Jon: After what will hopefully be a star-making performance for Cesaro, I think he finds a way to take it even further for this contest. He’s going to put on the fight of his life and take Reigns to the limit at times. But he’s not going to win the title. Not yet, at least. I think this will be a trial run to see if the fans get behind the Sweedish Cyborg as they did for Kofi Kingston. Roman goes over, but Cesaro gets over.
Katrina: Roman Reigns. I just don’t see him losing this. He is one of the best things in WWE right now.
James’ Pick: Roman Reigns
Neil’s Pick: Roman Reigns
Jon’s Pick: Roman Reigns
Katrina’s Pick: Roman Reigns
