Out of the blue last week, the NWA Fam were greeted with the news that the promotion would be airing their second Pay-Per-View, When Our Shadows Fall, since returning from their pandemic break. A lot of fans raised a valid question: why announce a PPV when you have no matches to promote for it yet? That’s a question that I cannot answer, but from the way flagship show Powerrr is currently being booked, I think we can make some reasonable guesses for at least five of the matches on the card.
What do we think will be booked for When Our Shadows Fall? Read on for our predictions…
1. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis vs. Trevor Murdoch
What started as a dispute between Trevor Murdoch and Chris Adonis has escalated into a conflict between the World Champ and Murdoch after Aldis involved himself on behalf of Adonis, however much he tries to deny the fact. We’ve seen Aldis distract Murdoch at the podium so that Chris Adonis could attack our Trev from behind, and we’ve seen Aldis try to get Murdoch off of his back, offering him a deal of a title shot down the line if Murdoch stayed away from last week’s main event involving Aldis.
Now, Murdoch didn’t stay away from the main event and he got his ass handed to him by Strictly Business as a result. But that doesn’t mean that Murdoch won’t get his shot at Aldis. In fact, it makes sense for these two to headline When Our Shadows Fall. Who else is really built up enough at the moment to headline against the champ? Really, Murdoch is the only logical choice. And with Adonis taking the National title away from him, Murdoch is free to pursue the Heavyweight belt.
I don’t think he’ll win, mind, but I’ll be ecstatic if he does.
2. NWA TV Champion ‘The Pope’ Elijah Burke vs. Tyrus
This is another match where it looks fairly clear that it’s going to happen. The two had a surprisingly electric confrontation at the podium on last week’s Powerrr, which resulted in Pope telling Tyrus he needs to earn his place at the front of the queue, and Tyrus smashing through two contenders to earn his title shot. So I think it’s safe to say this will be a marquee match on the PPV.
While I’m not sure that the match is actually going to be any good (Pope can still really go; Tyrus, not so much), I am at least excited by the prospect of the two having more exhilarating back-and-forth confrontations on the mic during the build-up. Give me that, and if the match’s at least only half-decent, I’ll be happy.
3. Aron Stevens vs. Kratos
The dysfunctional tag team champions are clearly on the path to a break-up. I believe that will happen when they drop the title belts, and while it’s likely that will happen at When Our Shadows Fall, I’m going to predict a slightly different path. After all, do you want to pay to see Stevens and Kratos lose the titles to Sal Rinauro and Tim Storm on PPV? Nothing against Sal and Tim, but Stevens vs. Kratos is the bigger match in my mind.
I think we could see the champs drop the titles on Powerrr after a miscommunication that proves to be the final straw. From there, a face Stevens vs. heel Kratos match could offer some real excitement, especially if Kratos makes a mockery of the good man Stevens has become (tastefully, of course; we know the death of Joseph Hudson was the reason for the change).
If the photos online currently of Kratos shaking hands with Thom Latimer are anything to go by as well, could we see Strictly Business get involved in the finish and hinder Stevens? This could set up a rematch, possibly a good ol’ fashioned NWA gritty steel cage match to keep people out, where Stevens could finally get the win.
Sounds good to me anyway!
4. NWA Women’s Champion Serena Deeb vs. Kamille
This is one I’m a little uncertain about. Serena Deeb has been out with an injury and, as far as I’m aware, her return date has not been confirmed. However, she was listed on the press release for When Our Shadows Fall as being set to appear on the show.
If that’s the case, then there’s only one match she’ll have. Kamille is established as the number one contender for The Burke. A hungry, aggressive Kamille against the more strategic, technical champ would make a great marquee match for the show.
If it turns out, though, that Serena Deeb is still hurt by the time of the show, again judging by pics of this week’s Powerrr online, we could see Kamille and Taryn Terrell vs. Thunder Rosa and Melina instead. I’d much prefer the first option, though.
5. Jax Dane vs. Crimson
While it makes more sense to keep one of your legitimate tag teams together when your roster is as thin as it is, I do believe we’ve seen the hints of a War Kings split recently. Slice Boogie has called out Jax Dane for a match after Boogie took criticism for knocking Dane out with a bump to the floor previously. I think we’ll see that match but not on the PPV.
Crimson was noticeably upset when Dane took that bump and left Crimson on his own. So could Crimson get involved in a Dane-Boogie match, knocking Dane down to give Boogie the win?
If nothing else, we’d at least get a banging match out of Dane and Crimson at When Our Shadows Fall.
What do you think of my predictions? Any matches that look likely that you think I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments!
