Welcome to the first edition of the Sports Obsessive weekly AEW Power Rankings! This is where we give the rundown of the most successful and highest achieving wrestlers over the past week of All Elite action.
Who tore ablaze through the ring this week? Who grabbed gold, and whose star shone brightest?
Let’s get into the rankings and find out!
5. Dax Harwood
Following on from the string of great matches they’ve had recently against the likes of the Briscoe Brothers and The Young Bucks, FTR continued their streak of excellence by facing each other in an extremely entertaining encounter as part of the Owen Cup. Dax gets the nod here for getting the win and advancing in the cup tournament, but really they both deserve this fifth-place spot on the Power Rankings.
4. Wardlow
‘Mr Mayhem’ is riding a good push here, building momentum through a series of solid wins on his way to what hopefully will be a star-cementing battle with MJF. Wardlow took one step closer to his goal this week with an impressive victory over an established higher tier performer in Lance Archer. That victories over Archer will end up becoming meaningless soon if ‘The Murderhawk’ keeps losing big matches does not detract from the elevation victory here gives Wardlow. The man is en route to big things.
3. Serena Deeb
Deeb got a big win this week, finally putting paid to her feud with Hikaru Shida by defeating her long-standing rival by submission in a Philly Street Fight. Beating Shida strongly and conclusively puts Deeb in a good position and hopefully will put the former NWA Women’s champ on the path to the woman she beat for that title, current AEW Women’s champ Thunder Rosa.
2. CM Punk
Putting Punk in slot two this week might seem a little bit over the top considering he didn’t wrestle this week, but he earns his place here simply because AEW finally confirmed Punk is heading to the main event—he will be facing ‘Hangman’ Adam Page for the AEW Heavyweight Championship at Double or Nothing on May 29th. Whilst more was planned this week for Punk, which unfortunately changed due to Page’s Covid diagnosis, the simple announcement of Punk challenging for the gold is big enough to propel him up our Power Ranking. We knew AEW would always treat Punk like a star. Now they’re treating him like a main eventer and the excitement is palpable.
1. Scorpio Sky
The only winner of AEW gold this week, Scorpio Sky is very deserving of heading up our Power Rankings here. After putting in a solid effort against Sammy Guevara during their ladder match, Scorpio was rewarded with his second reign as TNT Champion. Many people have been asking for months why Scorpio hadn’t been pushed outside of Dark, but it looks like this is finally his time. The teased feud with current partner Ethan Page will offer the champ some exciting confrontations and will hopefully elevate Page in the process.
