Welcome to the WCW vs NWO Podcast, a Sports Obsessive wrestling podcast looking back at peak-period WCW. Dave, Gus, and Conor review Fall Brawl 1996 for episode 3. Sting and Luger team up with the 4 Horseman to take on the NWO in a War Games match. An imposter Sting beat up Luger on Nitro. Whose side will Sting be on for the War Games match?
Fall Brawl was a pivotal moment in the war between WCW vs NWO. The NWO has grown in numbers with the additions of the Giant and Ted DiBiase. Along with the numbers game growing, Hogan has the WCW Heavyweight Championship belt and the NWO will soon come for the other titles.
On this episode, we take a look at the history of War Games as a match. Was it necessary to further the storyline? The build up was actually beautifully done by WCW. Classic promos from both sides perfectly personified their motivations. Arn Anderson even reserved a spot at the hospital! Not sure that’s how hospitals work.
Whose side is Sting on? This show is the catalyst of a character change for the legendary Sting. How was it handled? One heel turn that was not handled well was the Giant’s. From the commentary, to the motivation, this started the cycle of Paul Wight turning face and heel an astronomical amount of times in his long career.
3 wrestling fans review the war between WCW and the NWO PPV by PPV 96-98.
