NXT champion Finn Balor has been out of action since fracturing his jaw in an absolute war against Kyle O’Reilly at NXT Takeover 31. The Prince was able to successfully defend his title, but has barely been seen in the two months following the event, save for the occasional video package or his brief appearance a few weeks ago that was essentially just a way to introduce the return of the Undisputed Era and set up their War Games match against Pat McAfee and company.
That appears to be changing this week, with the inaugural WWE Universal Champion set to make his return to NXT weekly television. During Sunday’s NXT Takeover: War Games event, a package was run showing Finn Balor saying that the time for team sports was over and promising that all eyes will now be back on the Prince.
On that same night, a vignette was shown for the impending return of another former NXT Champion, Karrion Kross. Like Balor, Kross was injured in his match with Keith Lee, in which he won the prized championship. However, unlike Finn, Kross was forced to relinquish the belt and start focusing on his rehabilitation without ever getting a change to see his reign come to fruition.
With the announcement of NXT’s New Year’s Evil set for January 6th on the USA network, could we be getting a dream matchup of these two titans? Only time will tell. Keep checking back to Sports Obsessive for all of the latest updates on this and all of your other professional wrestling news.
