WWE Day One Predictions

WWE Day One will be with us in about 24 hours, as 2022 kicks off and the WWE becomes the first company out of the blocks with a brand new PPV, and as always, we here at Sports Obsessive are here to bring you our predictions for the show. If you’re reading this, then I assume that you know how this works. So there’s no need for further introductions, let’s get to the predictions for WWE Day One.

WWE Day One graphic for Reigns vs. Lesnar

Kickoff Match: Cesaro & Ricochet vs Sheamus and Ridge Holland

Jon Shartzer: I want Cesaro and Ricochet to win so badly. I have zero confidence that it will actually happen. We know how this works by now. The big guys will win.
Winners: Sheamus and Ridge Holland

Neil Gray: There are two ways this match can go. Option A is that they let all four men go out there and put on a rip-roaring affair, which is something I think that they’re very capable of doing, or Option B is that they let Cesaro hit his spots and then have Sheamus and Ridge Holland absolutely murder Ricochet. Imma gonna go with option B.
Winners: Sheamus and Ridge Holland

Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss

JS: There is absolutely no way that Drew McIntyre loses here. By far the easiest match on the card. Not much else to really say.
Winner: Drew McIntyre

NG: This has squash written all over it more than a carton of orange juice. Drew will muller Moss. Nuff Said.
Winner: Drew McIntyre

SmackDown Tag Team Championships: The Usos (c) vs. The New Day

JS: I know that we’ve seen this match countless times, but this is a recipe that never disappoints. The chemistry between the Usos and the New Day is off the charts and we’re practically guaranteed another masterpiece for Day One. The Usos retain and now maybe King Woods can get a significant singles feud going forward.
Winners: The Usos

NG: If WWE Day One doesn’t have a single title change, then it’s nothing more than a glorified episode of SmackDown or RAW that we’ve all been conned into parting some hard-earned cash for. Looking at the card the only real feasible option for that to happen is here and I fully expect The New Day to emerge victorious after a barn-stormer of a bout.
Winners: The New Day

Raw Tag Team Championship: RK-Bro (c) vs. The Street Profits

JS: The RK-Breakup is definitely going to happen at some point. This match will most likely be the catalyst for that. Riddle and Orton take the loss and start planting seeds for a showdown at Wrestlemania. Street Profits benefit with another title run.
Winners: The Street Profits

NG: I agree with Jon. At some point, Randy Orton is going to RKO the living hell out of Matt Riddle, setting up a feud between the two for Wrestlemania, it’s just that I don’t think it’s going to be here. I have no doubt that there will be teases throughout the match that Orton is going to turn on his partner, but I’m pretty sure that RK-Bro will leave WWE Day One still champions.
Winners: RK-Bro

Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) Liv Morgan.

JS: I just don’t see Liv Morgan as the champion right now. It’s not that I don’t like her, but it feels like something is still missing. She won’t be the one to dethrone Big Time Becks. Lynch holds on to her title.
Winner: Becky Lynch

NG: Picture the scene. Big Time Becks is about to win by cheating once again when all of a sudden Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation hits and Ronda Rousey storms to the ring. Distracted, Lynch falls victim to the old surprise roll-up and Liv Morgan is crowned the new RAW Women’s Champion. Does that sound far-fetched? Oh yes, but I can guarantee you right now that that is the only way Liv Morgan wins the title. They’ve botched this feud horribly and – even though I am a huge Liv Morgan fan – Morgan is not seen as a legitimate threat to Lynch. Becky wins this, every day.
Winner: Becky Lynch

Edge vs. The Miz

JS: My initial thoughts were to give the match to Edge. But the more that I think about it, the more a Miz victory makes sense. This story still has plenty of growth ahead, most likely including a mixed-tag match with Maryse and Beth Phoenix. The A-Lister wins, but it won’t be clean.
Winner: The Miz

NG: I have a theory that the real reason for WWE Day One isn’t just to pull money out of pockets, but to set up the Road To Wrestlemania earlier than the Royal Rumble, and that’s just what this match is going to do. The Miz will win, but this story will run all the way to the Show of Shows where Edge will dispatch his adversary for a feel-good moment we all thought we’d never see again.
Winner: The Miz

WWE Championship: Big E (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley

JS: I really don’t know about this one. Something tells me that the WWE is going to take the strap off of Big E soon. I just can’t decide who they want to pass the torch to. I think we will find out at the Rumble. Big E survives for now.
Winner: Big E

NG: I have no sodding idea what’s going to happen here. Logic dictates that Big E retains, somehow overcoming the odds of three heels against one face, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Vince McMahon’s big, sweaty man fetish has kicked in and Bobby Lashley will pick up the 1-2-3, setting up yet another Wrestlemania feud between the former champ and the new one.
Winner: Bobby Lashley

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

JS: I can’t believe that I’m actually excited about another rematch between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, but here we are. I feel like they pulled the trigger too early on the Paul Heyman stuff, but it adds another level of intrigue to the story. This should be a banger,  but I still don’t see Reigns losing the belt before Mania. The Tribal Chief retains.
Winner: Roman Reigns

NG: I love Lumberjack Brock. There, I said it. His return has been one of the highlights in what has been a pretty awful year for the WWE and I can’t wait for him to dethrone The Tribal Chief – who himself has been a major player over the past 12 months – but I can’t see it happening before Wrestlemania. I expect Paul Heyman to get involved and cost Lesnar the match and then for Brock to F5 him into the middle of next month.
Winner: Roman Reigns

  1. Great article guys! I do believe that Sheamus and Ridge win. Of course McIntyre will as well. The New Day will prevail over the Usos to put a small crack in the armor of The Bloodline. RK-Bro over Street Profits. I believe that they will have the turn in this just before or after RR. The stunning part will be Riddle turning on Orton to set up the feud however. In the shocker of the night I believe that we will see Liv Morgan cheat to beat Becky Lynch for the title. Edge over Miz because if they have big plans for Edge at WM I believe that he needs this win over Miz to set up the road ahead. As much as I’d like to see another main event run from KO, I do believe that Big E will hold onto the title until WM. Roman Reigns retaining over the Beast Incarnate by way of interference from Heyman leading to them having yet another match at WM.
