WWE 2020 Slammy Awards Predictions

Sam Predicts Which WWE Superstars Will Be Awarded At The 2020 Slammy’s

Hey everyone this is Sam. Let’s talk about the WWE 2020 Slammy Awards Predictions. They have been gone for five years, but I’m sure R-Truth will bring them back in style on Wednesday morning live on WWE Network,, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter at 10:00am EST

I’m going to break down the 10 categories and offer some predictions on who may walk away winning one of the trophies.

WWE 2020 Slammy Moment of the Year

  • The Undertaker’s Final Farewell: Survivor Series 2020
  • Drew McIntyre defeats Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship: WrestleMania 36
  • Becky Lynch announces her pregnancy: Raw, May 11, 2020
  • Edge returns in the Men’s Royal Rumble match: Royal Rumble 2020
  • The New Day’s farewell address: SmackDown, Oct. 16, 2020
  • Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman unite: SmackDown, August 28, 2020
  • Bayley betrays Sasha Banks: SmackDown, Sept. 4, 2020
  • The New Day gets drafted to different brands: Raw, Oct. 12, 2020

I think The Undertaker’s Final Farewell likely would have won this award if it had taken place with fans in attendance because they would have put it together better. Instead it was widely panned including by me. If this wins then we definitely know Vince McMahon ordered it.

Bayley betraying Sasha Banks was too soon and not done correctly. They were tag team champs too short of a time and it wasn’t built how it should have been. Drew McIntyre defeating Brock Lesnar was way too predictable. Was Roman Reigns uniting with Paul Heyman a moment?

Yes, Edge coming back at the Royal Rumble was unbelievable especially as the fans roared. But it had been rumoured for months and almost everyone knew it was coming.

My Prediction

Becky Lynch dropping the title to Money in the Bank winner Asuka then shocking everyone including Asuka herself by announcing she was pregnant has to be the WWE Slammy moment of the year. This had never been seen before.

WWE 2020 Breakout Star of the Year

  • Dominik Mysterio
  • Bianca Belair
  • Otis
  • The Street Profits
  • Murphy

Of course, I think Murphy is extremely underrated as a wrestler. I also think he was great with Seth Rollins, but I don’t know that he truly broke out this year.

Many of you know that I don’t think much of Otis, his wrestling and especially his inappropriate gross gyrations. He did win the Mr. Money in the Bank briefcase then he disappeared. You also don’t win because WWE paid Mandy Rose to kiss you.

I don’t get why Bianca Belair is on this list this year  Yes, WWE brought her up at WrestleMania, but they didn’t let her on TV. Hopefully they will nominate her next year because she is already off to a great start.

I think The Street Profits just may end up winning this award. They will be a great interview and give them something to brag about. Also, they won both the Raw and SmackDown tag titles and have held them since March. Now of course, they won the Smackdown ones by exchanging them with the New Day. I won’t be surprised if they win.

My Prediction

I have to go with Dominik Mysterio. I’m not sure there are many mid-carders on the main roster that could do what this brand new, never been on TV rookie could have. He was supposed to be a part off the Rollins/Rey feud, but not a wrestling one. His part grew and grew. Vince McMahon decided after Rey Mysterio got hurt that Dominik should debut in his spot at SummerSlam no less. Dominik has shined on his own unlike Murphy, so he deserves it.

WWE 2020 Best Ring Gear of the Year

  • Charlotte Flair
  • Sasha Banks
  • Seth Rollins
  • The New Day
  • Bianca Belair
  • Shinsuke Nakamura
  • Carmella

Ring gear is the most subjective category on this list. Most others have some level of merit to compare, but this is purely based on personal preference.

No, it shouldn’t be Shinsuke Nakamura since he hasn’t changed his ring gear. This isn’t a historical award.

I love Charlotte’s flashy robes, but you left us for seven months. We didn’t get to see what all you could have came up with. Maybe you should have let Andrade wear some of them.

Carmella’s ring gear is great, but where have you been? This is a whole year award.

Personally, I think Bianca Belair should win, but won’t. She makes all her outfits herself, but no one knows that. Plus, she has great style.

My Prediction

So Sasha Banks wins this one with the fans and with WWE  Her husband makes her outfits and they are always original. She looks incredible every week.

Graphic of WWE 2020 Return of the Year

WWE 2020 Slammy Return of the Year

  • Edge
  • Roman Reigns
  • MVP
  • Goldberg
  • Sami Zayn

Why and how is Goldberg on the list? Because Vince McMahon needed him for a month as a transitional champion, so they didn’t boo Roman Reigns? Give me a break.

I loved why Sami Zayn left and was excited that he returned. No one else really missed him or was that excited though.

Roman Reigns is interesting since he left because of Covid-19. Problem is he returned because WWE needed him, not because his health wouldn’t be compromised. His return has been a game-changer, but not because of the actual return. It is because what happened after with his heel personality.

I’m sure Edge will win this. He is just too popular.

My Prediction:

Even though I can’t really stand him. MVP has done a fantastic job with The Hurt Business. He has been here most of the year and has grown as he went. It wasn’t a month long return or a publicity stunt.

Graphic of WWE 2020 Tag Team of the Year

WWE 2020 Tag Team of the Year

  • The Golden Role Models
  • Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler
  • The New Day
  • The Street Profits
  • Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro

I think the easy nomination to eliminate here is Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro. They needed five nominations, so they were it.

As far as The New Day, no I can’t give this to you  You would typical this year. Good, but typical until you broke up. Yet, you didn’t break up. Just lost Big E. Others did more than you.

I still don’t get why Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are even together as a tag team while poor Asuka is stuck taking on Dana Brooke for the championship. For some reason I believe they put them together because Vince doesn’t care for either so this way it takes up one segment. Plus, I think they wanted to put Lana through tables every week because I’m sure Vince found this hilarious.

So how do fans pick between The Street Profits and Sasha Banks and Bayley as the best. The Street Profits are a real tag team and have been a team all year. They also have had the belts longer. I can’t give it to them.

My Prediction

Bayley and Banks rocked it while together. They can’t be punished because WWE made a bad decision. Those titles allowed them on any show at anytime to brighten it up. They were leaders whatever show they were on. The Street Profits aren’t leaders of their own show. Bayley and Banks, if they were allowed could have set a new bar for women’s tag team wrestling.

Graphic of WWE 2020 Rivalry of the Year

WWE 2020 Slammy Rivalry of the Year

  • Seth Rollins vs. The Mysterio Family
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton
  • Edge vs. Randy Orton
  • Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
  • R-Truth vs. The World
  • Lana vs. Announcer Tables

Why is R-Truth and Lana even on here? Are you serious? Again, did we not have enough rivalries to fill out the list? I agree with Sonya Deville was right her and Mandy Rose were snubbed for those final spots.

I enjoyed the feud between Rollins and The Mysterio family for the summer, but after Payback PPV it should have been over. Murphy and Aliyah never should have started. By the way, where are the Mysterio’s?

The feud between The Viper and Edge had a more compelling storyline. It was a storyline that every fan wanted. Their promos were unbelievable and personal. They really should take this award. However, this isn’t finished and I think after time to think next year will be even better.

I want this rivalry to win just because I like them so much. The Bayley/Banks issue is that it was so disappointing. It wasn’t told correctly and given time. Their long history should have been brought in more. It just failed to live up to the hype. Their wrestling was awesome. The Hell in the Cell match stole that PPV. Their opening match on Friday Night Smackdown had 2.5 million viewers that quickly left after the 1-2-3.

My Prediction

Why did I choose Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton over Bayley and Banks? Because it did live up to the hype. It lasted through three pay-per-views and their promos were great. They were the show a lot of time on Raw. Smackdown wouldn’t have three segments of Banks-Bayley to tell their story. We saw Orton’s psychology of being a psychopath ready to hurt McIntyre and the calculation behind it. Then we saw McIntyre’s impulsive nature. It was great.

Graphic of WWE 2020 Match of the Year

WWE 2020 Match of the Year

  • Undertaker vs. AJ Styles – Boneyard match, WrestleMania 36
  • The New Day vs. The Hurt Business – Raw Tag Team Championship: Raw, Nov. 16, 2020
  • Edge vs. Randy Orton – The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever: WWE Backlash 2020
  • Men’s Royal Rumble match: Royal Rumble 2020
  • AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan – Intercontinental Championship Tournament Finals: SmackDown, June 12, 2020
  • Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso – Universal Championship Hell in a Cell “I Quit” match: WWE Hell in a Cell 2020
  • Sasha Banks vs. Bayley – SmackDown Women’s Championship Hell in a Cell match: WWE Hell in a Cell 2020
  • AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn vs. Jeff Hardy – Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat ladder match: WWE Clash of Champions 2020
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns: Survivor Series 2020
  • Becky Lynch vs. Asuka – Royal Rumble 2020

There are some amazing matches listed here.

With the fans voting, I think the Boneyard match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles wins. However, I think it shouldn’t because it should be in a separate category. It’s a cinematic match. A great one, but it can’t compare to live.

My Prediction

Personally, I think it should be a tie between the Friday Night Smackdown match that WWE didn’t want on the Sunday PPV because it would have stole the show- AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan. Guess what? It did. It stole the weekend.

The other match of the year should be Bayley vs Banks in Hell in a Cell match. It won’t win because a lot of people couldn’t believe Roman could be a heel, so a lot didn’t pick it as the match of the night. Mark these words down: their match will go down as historic with wrestlers. They were original and creative without climbing the cage or falling off of it. They didn’t use any cheap pops. Instead, they actually use the cage, weapons including a fire extinguisher and even each other. Go watch both of these matches again…just see.

Graphic of WWE 2020 Superstar of the Year

WWE 2020 Slammy Male, Female and Superstar of the Year

Male Superstar of the Year Nominees

  • Drew McIntyre
  • Roman Reigns
  • Randy Orton
  • Braun Strowman
  • “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt

Female Superstar of the Year Nominees

  • Asuka
  • Sasha Banks
  • Bayley
  • Becky Lynch
  • Charlotte Flair

Overall Superstar of the Year nominees consist of all 10 listed above.

Male Superstar should go to Drew McIntyre. Who else can it be besides Randy Orton? They should be the only two listed. Drew won the Royal Rumble then beat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 without fans. I think most felt so bad that he didn’t get his fan moment.

Female Superstar should go to Bayley. Again, who else can it be besides Sasha Banks? I thought that Asuka would give them a run after the first three months, but then she kind of disappeared for a little while. Bayley carried the SmackDown Women’s Championship into 2020 and won the tag titles alongside Sasha Banks. Now Banks beat Bayley for the Smackdown belt. The Boss also won the Raw Women’s Championship. What gives Bayley the edge is her growth in the ring, carrying the title most of the year and coming into her own as a heel.

Ultimately, Overall Superstar should still go to Bayley over Drew McIntyre. This was her year of ascension, which means more by her picking up the slack when Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair were away. Even PWI agrees. Bayley was the #1 rated woman and #3 in tag team ratings. I just hope WWE doesn’t forget her as Charlotte and Becky come back. She deserves better after this year.

Once aging, thank you for supporting us here at Sports Obsessive. Let me know what you think and let’s see how I do. Believe me, no matter what they pick…I’m right. (Wink) See you down the road.
