NXT: War Games 2021 Predictions

Welcome one and welcome all to our NXT: War Games, 2021, predictions. It’s been a strange old year for NXT, which has seen it go from being the WWE alternative to becoming RAW and Smackdown Lite. Whatever your feelings towards NXT 2.0 – and apparently it’s not just fans who are turned off by the product, but wrestlers as well – you can’t deny that NXT: War Games usually delivers.

With only 24 hours to go before NXT: War Games, 2021, we here at Sports Obsessive – at least, those of us who could be bothered – have gotten together to offer our predictions on who we think will emerge victorious from NXT’s Show of Shows.

War Games: Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, and LA Knight vs. Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, and Grayson Waller

Jon Shartzer: It’s weird having a War Games match in NXT that doesn’t involve the Undisputed Era. This match doesn’t really have much of a build to it, but that’s ok. The NXT diehard in me wants to choose the Old School team. However, I think they will use this match to signify a true changing of the guard. The newbies walk out of War Games as the victors.
Winners: Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, and Grayson Waller

Joel Kananen: I’m glad Kyle O’Reilly isn’t in this match, even though he makes more sense for the old NXT team than LA Knight does. Carmelo Hayes and Bron Breakker have the most to gain with a win here, and this entire thing should be a great time. If this is it for Johnny Gargano in NXT, this will be a nice sendoff.
Winners: Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, and Grayson Waller

Neil Gray: This is a tough one to call. Logic would dictate that Big Vinnie wants to give every NXT 2.0 fan a Merry Christmas, so he has The Good Guys go over, sending everyone home happy. But with rumors that Ciampa and Gargano have yet to sort out their contracts – especially in Gargano’s case, with him only signing a week-long extension – there is no way that the WWE wants to send either off with a win under their belts. It pains me to say it – as I really, really hate Tony D’Angelo’s gimmick – but the Heel’s are picking up the victory here.
Winners: Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D’Angelo, and Grayson Waller

War Games: Cora Jade, Raquel González, Io Shirai, and Kay Lee Ray vs. Toxic Attraction and Dakota Kai

JS: I’m expecting a lot of heel victories on this card. However, I don’t think this is one of them. The real question is, who comes out of this match as the next challenger to NXT women’s champion, Mandy Rose? My money is on Kay Lee Ray.
Winners: Cora Jade, Raquel Gonzalez, Io Shirai, and Kay Lee Ray

JK: While I’m looking forward to Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray showcasing why they are two of the most talented wrestlers in the world, Toxic Attraction is the hottest thing smoking in 2.0 World. Add Dakota Kai’s crazy streak, and you have a recipe for success.
Winners: Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

NG: Vince McMahon is so high on Toxic Attraction at the moment that this is the easiest pick of the night.
Winners: Toxic Attraction & Dakota Kai

NXT Tag Team Titles: Imperium vs. Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner

JS: I don’t really like this makeshift team of Kyle O’Reilly and Von Wagner. That’s ok, though. I don’t see them being together after this show. KOR is probably going to walk away once his contract expires and it feels like Wagner is already on his way to the main roster. The mat remains sacred with an Imperium retention.
Winners: Imperium

JK: This just makes me think that an Undisputed Era vs. Imperium War Games match would have been absolutely incredible. Oh well.
Winners: Imperium

NG: Looks like a clean sweep here, with all three of us in agreement that KOR is gonzola the moment his contract wraps up. It seems to be the worst kept secret in wrestling at the moment, and because of that, Imperium to mop the floor with him so Von Wagner – worst. name. ever – can look strong with a hot tag, only for KOR to get back in there somehow and eat the pin.
Winners: Imperium

NXT Cruiserweight Title Match: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Joe Gacy

JS: I didn’t see this one coming, but with both top singles titles and the North American champion tied up in War Games, the cruiserweight championship needs to be defended. I seriously hope that WWE is willing to make a complete mockery of the cruiserweight limit and put the title on Gacy. The Messiah of the Backbreaker retains.
Winner: Roderick Strong

JK: This one is going to come down to someone outside of the ring making the biggest difference. Will it be the Malcolm Bivens-led Diamond Mine or Harland, whose dead eyes and shiny dome inspire both abject fear and laughter?
Winner: Roderick Strong

NG: I’m going to buck the trend here. Not because I think I know any better than my two esteemed colleagues, but because I genuinely have no bloody idea. This match came from out of nowhere, and I can’t believe that they’d build Gacy up in such a short time to have him lose here. but then again, this is WWE creative we’re talking about here.
Winner: Joe Gacy

Hair vs Hair Match: Cameron Grimes vs. Duke Hudson

JS: This feels like the match with the most obvious outcome, to me. After Hudson cut off part of Grimes’ hair and beard, Cameron showed up the next week with a cleaner look. I can’t help but feel like another big change is coming to Cameron Grimes’ character and this will be the catalyst. Duke Hudson gets the victory.
Winner: Duke Hudson

JK: Going all-in on Cameron Grimes, who is top five funniest wrestlers in the world.
Winner: Cameron Grimes

NG: If the rumors are to be believed, then Cameron Grimes is in for an entire character shake-up that will see him turn from goofy babyface to hard-ass heel. The catalyst for this is meant to be this feud and when he loses this match, he’ll also lose his hair and his beard. I guess me and Vince McMahon do have one thing in common after all, we both hate hippies.
Winner: Duke Hudson
