NXT: Vengeance Day is 24 hours away and as always, whenever there is a PPV or a Supercard, we hear at Sports Obsessive have gathered together our Brain Trust – and me – to bring you our predictions for NXT: Vengeance Day, 2022.
NXT Championship – Bron Breakker (c) vs Santos Escobar
Jon Shartzer: These two men have the potential to do something special in this match. The athleticism and charisma should make for a fun showing. But the outcome is obvious. As much as I believe that Santos Escobar is a star, Bron has the rocket ship on his back. He’s not losing that title any time soon.
Prediction: Bron Breakker
Joel Kananen: Two extremely bright in-ring talents should put on an absolute banger. As good as he is, there is no chance Santos pulls out a victory.
Prediction: Bron Breakker
Jeremy Thomas: Whether I like it or not Breakker is the future of NXT 2.0 and seems to be getting prepared for future main event status in WWE. I don’t see any chance of Escobar coming out on top.
Prediction: Bron Breakker
Neil Gray: If Santos Escobar wins this, I will run through my hometown wearing nothing more than one of Rikishi’s old thongs.
Prediction: Bron Breakker
NXT North American Championship – Carmelo Hayes (c) vs Cameron Grimes
JS: Another match that has a ton of potential to deliver. I’m not a fan of Grimes’ look, but the man can wrestle and has tons of personality. He’s due for a title run at some point. But I don’t think it happens at Vengeance Day. Melo won’t miss and retains his North American Championship.
Prediction: Carmelo Hayes
JK: Cameron Grimes has been one of the most enjoyable characters in NXT for some time, but has not held any official gold. The former Million Dollar Champion has a good shot here, especially if Carmelo Hayes is in line for a bump up to NXT Championship contender. Hayes has been a revelation in 2.0, and a feud with Bron Breakker could be major for both young stars and the brand.
Prediction: Cameron Grimes
JT: Hayes defeated Roderick Strong at New Year’s Evil to retire the Cruiserweight championship once again. Grimes feels like he could be coming to the end of his NXT run and ready for the main roster very soon. I believe Hayes will keep being pushed for a possible confrontation with Breakker down the road.
Prediction: Carmelo Hayes
NG: I’m going to buck the trend here and predict the only real shock from NXT: Vengeance Day. If rumors are to be believed then the WWE is very high on Cameron Grimes at the moment, but I think that the stories of him getting a main roster call-up are a tad premature. Even though he seems to have been in NXT since the dawn of time. I expect him to pick up the title at NXT: Vengeance Day and stick around for at least another six months before dropping the belt and being moved to RAW. Where he will instantly be buried.
Prediction: Cameron Grimes
NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship – Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne (c) vs Indi Hartwell & Persia Pirotta
JS: I don’t really have high expectations for this match but I hope that I’m pleasantly surprised. I just can’t get into Indi and Persia without Johnny, Candice, or Dexter Lumis around. Toxic Attraction will probably hold on to their titles until they face the winners of the Women’s Dusty Classic. They’ll definitely retain here.
Prediction: Toxic Attraction
JK: I am a huge Indi Hartwell fan and am shamelessly rooting for her to become the first woman to win the NXT Tag Team Championship with two different partners. Candice, congrats on Baby Wrestling, we miss you.
Prediction: Indi & Persia
JT: Toxic Attraction is currently my favorite stable on NXT 2.0. They are the best reason to tune in each week. As popular and great as they are I hope that they don’t drop the titles.
Prediction: Toxic Attraction
NG: There’s no chance that the titles change hands. Pointless match that everyone and their grandma already knows the outcome of. Having said that, Gigi Dolin is always excellent to watch in-ring, so that’s something to look forward to.
Prediction: Toxic Attraction
Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals – MSK vs The Creed Brothers
JS: This matchup is really intriguing to me. The conflicting styles of The Creed Brothers and MSK should be a recipe for some pretty nice spots and false finishes. MSK won last year and the word is that Vince really likes the Creed Brothers. The Diamond Victory is the only thing that makes sense here.
Prediction: The Creed Brothers
JK: Two teams with very different styles make this an intriguing match. I don’t see MSK winning back-to-back Dusty Cups, even if they are the better overall team. Look for Diamond Mine head coach Malcolm Bivens to have his boys ready to take the trophy.
Prediction: The Creed Brothers
JT: The men’s version of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has reached its finale! I am happy that WWE didn’t abandon this tournament with their rebrand of NXT. I love the appeal of MSK being able to brag about being the two-time defending Dusty Classic champions.
Prediction: MSK
NG: Why any tag team would want to sign with the WWE is beyond me. NXT was the only place a duo could shine, and now that it’s been rebranded, NXT tag team wrestling will soon go the way of its older siblings on Smackdown and RAW. being locked in the cupboard and only trawled out when The Usos and The New Day need something to do. If the company doesn’t care about their tag teams then neither do I. Pin in a map time…er…
Prediction: The Creed Brothers
Weaponized’ Steel Cage Match – Pete Dunne vs Tony D’Angelo
JS: Pete Dunne is definitely getting called up to the main roster, right? This kind of match is exactly how they write people off. I can’t wait to see what type of violence the Bruiserweight can inflict on his way out, even though it will be a losing effort. Tony D’Angelo gets to call himself the guy that ran Pete Dunne out of NXT.
Prediction: Tony D’Angelo
JK: This violent feud will have a fitting end inside a steel cage, and Tony’s finger-sausages are definitely getting grated in the chain link. Could this be the NXT swan song for Pete Dunne? If so, it would make the most sense to put D’Angelo over with a big win over the former champion. And where better to do it than NXT: Vengeance Day?
Prediction: Tony D’Angelo
JT: Dunne is another superstar with one foot out of the NXT door. He has received a few dark match opportunities before SmackDown in recent months. I believe Dunn is the supreme talent in this match but D’Angelo will come out on top.
Prediction: Tony D’Angelo
NG: I’m half Italian. This Tony D’Angelo s*it offends the f*ck out of me. You could threaten to set me on fire and then actually do it with the promise that you’d put me out if I sat through this and I’d still refuse to watch the f*cking thing.
Prediction: Not A F*cking Chance In Hell I’m Watching This Match
Offended NG? Toughen up buttercup. There’s no crying in wrestling
Right…because being offended by someone taking the piss out of your people is a bad thing…
