Will Ospreay made his AEW debut on Dynamite this week but is he All Elite? Or is this part of the build up to the upcoming Forbidden Door show where AEW and NJPW face off in what should be a dream match for wrestling fans?
At this point, all signs point to promotion for the PPV, which isn’t a bad thing. The show will be without CM Punk, who just had foot surgery, and it’s assumed that MJF won’t be back involved in storylines until after the PPV. Will Ospreay provides star power to the build and to the PPV and in theory, could be a factor in some fans decisions to buy the show.
But what about long term? Wrestling fans all over are dying for Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega to face off. Hopefully the seeds are being laid here for that genuine dream match. But for that to happen, Ospreay needs to be booked strong through Forbidden Door, so that when Omega is cleared to return, the build can start.
In the short term, Ospreay can be a conduit for NJPW wrestling fans who perhaps aren’t sold on AEW for whatever reason. Give them a reason to tune in hopefully and maybe, just maybe, they’ll like what they see and continue to tune in.
