Mustafa Ali has requested his WWE release. Taking to Twitter yesterday, Ali released the following statement;
I am requesting my release from WWE. I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling. Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE. Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”
This doesn’t come as that much of a big surprise, in your friendly neighborhood wrestling writer’s opinion. Mustafa Ali has consistently been one of the most underutilized and miss handled talents in the recent history of the company. And that’s saying something. He is an exceptional in-ring worker who has a mind for the business that the WWE seemingly refused to tap into.
For example, his ‘New America’ angle – where Mustafa Ali took umbrage with the WWE Universe for booing him just because of his name – was scrapped. Ali himself took to Twitter to explain the reason for the story not taking off was;
A few weeks ago, I made a statement that some deemed controversial. My intentions were to bring a beautiful vision to life. Unfortunately, for reasons beyond my control, I won’t be able to make that vision a reality. but I can share with you what could have been.”
It’s being reported that the fallout from which saw Vince McMahon and Mustafa Ali get into a very heated argument that ended with the former making sure the latter has hardly been seen on WWE programming since. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea, but knowing that you should never cross the boss -especially if that boss happens to be a certain Vincent Kennedy McMahon – it wouldn’t surprise me if it is.
As for Mustafa Ali, there is no news at the time of writing if he has or will be granted his request to leave the WWE, but as he doesn’t fall into the category of ‘desirable asset’ that the company has already stated they would refuse to lose, then I feel it’ll only be a matter of time before he heads for pastures new.
