Matt Cardona vs. Joey Janela Set For The Wrld On GCW

Matt Cardona vs. Joey Janela is set for The Wrld on GCW, meaning that only a few weeks after quitting the company during their Blood on the Hills event, Matt Cardona will have had two matches in as many weeks for GCW. The night he quit saw Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green take on the team of Effy and Allie Katch – more commonly known as Bussy – in a losing effort that ended with Cardona taking a spear from The Weapon Of Sass Destruction and a piledriver from Katch – who also gave the same treatment to Green – before the couple found themselves unceremoniously pinned in the kind of four-way three-count that must still be giving Jim Cornette nightmares.

After the match, Matt Cardona flipped off the crowd and told GCW owner Brett Lauderdale to go procreate himself, before yelling that he quit, and storming off. He later took to Twitter to confirm he was done with the company, tweeting out a simple “Bye”, and that was that. Except it now turns out that it isn’t.

For those of you that haven’t been following what has unfolded since – and why the hell haven’t you been? – we have been privy to an angle that is up there with the Flair/Savage/Miss Elizabeth ‘Damaged Goods’ angle from Wrestlemania VIII. It all started when Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green got married on New Year’s Eve and Joey Janela sent the groom a wedding present that was a set of photos of Janela, lounging around a swimming pool with Cardona’s bride, Chelsea Green.  It was a sensational move that saw Matt Cardona announce he was returning to GCW and has now led to the aforementioned Matt Cardona vs. Joey Janela match for the upcoming PPV.

On a personal note, I love this. This has been played brilliantly and Matt Cardona’s rage at Janela’s actions has already set this up to be my feud of the year, and we’re only in January. I hope that this isn’t a one-and-done deal either as it has the kind of legs that could see it span multi PPVs, until at least August. But for that to happen, Chelsea Green has to turn on her man, and that alone means that on January 23rd, I’ll be tuning in to the Hammerstein Ballroom to see if it happens.

Well played, everyone. Well played.
