On the most recent episode of his podcast, ‘Mancesplainin’, independent legend Mance Warner has been discussing his ankle injury. For those of you who don’t know, Mance Warner was performing at an NGW: Tennessee show in October when a planned spot with Dirty Dango went horribly wrong.
He chucked me out of the ring and when I hit the ground, I heard it. It was like two shotguns going off…I instantly knew I was f*cked. The crowd knew I was f*cked…The paramedics come in and tell me they’re going to take my boot off. It wasn’t sticking out. I wear this ankle brace anyway because I’m prone to rolling my ankles when I’m on the court, slam dunking fools. They said if I hadn’t worn that, the bone most likely would’ve popped through. When I broke it, I broke the tibia and fibia.
Though the injury was horrific, it isn’t the first time that Mance Warner has found himself in the most painful of situations, as he explained when he was asked if he thought his career was over after the NGW incident;
A lot of people get injured, you’re talking to a guy where I collapsed my lung and continued wrestling with one working for five minutes. I was going to get on a flight right after that, I guess I could’ve died or something”
There is no time scale as to when he will be returning to the ring as he also explained that he had to have surgery on his leg – including a metal plate and a ton of screws – and he is still on the mend, but Mance Warner is a tough s.o.b so I have little doubt that it’ll be sooner rather than later.
There’s a Go Fund Me page set up to help him pay his medical bills and you can visit it via this link to donate to one of the best independent wrestlers in the business today. Get better soon, Mance, you, and Matthew Justice, need to get your tag belts back from them Briscoe Brothers before Matt Cardona makes a friend and goes after them himself.
