Lita vs. Becky Lynch Set for Elimination Chamber

Lita vs. Becky Lynch has been set for WWE‘s Elimination Chamber that is due to take place at The Jeddah Super Dome, in Saudi Arabia, on February 19th. During last night’s RAW, Becky Lynch came out to interrupt a returning Ronda Rousey. This didn’t go so well for Big Time Becks as The Rowdy One took her down with a judo throw, before telling her she’d find out whose title she was going after on this week’s Smackdown.

After Rousey had left the ring, Lita came out to a thunderous ovation and the two had quite an interesting/funny exchange before Lita got to the crux of the matter and challenged Becky Lynch to a title match at the Elimination Chamber. Becky accepted and most of the wrestling world blew up in enjoyment.

I was going to be watching the Elimination Chamber regardless, as I’m going to be doing the Live Coverage for Sports Obsessive when the show is on, but I wasn’t really looking forward to it. In fact, I never look forward to their Supershow in Saudi as it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Outside of the moral ethics debate, it’s usually a pile of crap, where the WWE rolls out wrestlers that are past their prime to satisfy the desires of a man who didn’t know that Yokozuna had been dead for the best part of two decades. But now, well, you can color me interested.

I’m a huge mark for Becky Lynch – though I do wish she was still The Man instead of Big Time Becks – and like most men of my age, I fell madly in love with Lita when she debuted in 2000. So this really is my idea of fantasy booking. Lita herself has said that she has one more run left in her, and I’m inclined to agree. Do I think she’ll win the belt at the Elimination Chamber? No, not really. But if she puts in the kind of performance I think she will she may set herself up to be part of the Wrestlemania Main Event.

Currently, the safe money is on Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women’s Title and Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for the RAW version of the strap, but a strong showing in Saudi Arabia could see that changed to a Triple Threat between Lynch, Belair, and Lita. This would allow Lynch to save face in defeat, Belair to be crowned the new champion, and Lita to go out on her shield.

And considering how the company went out of their way to humiliate her when she first retired, I think that’s the least that they could do.
