Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36?

Usually, I don’t listen to rumors when it comes to pro-wrestling. I find that most of these are made up by frustrated fanboys who want to get more clicks on their blogs, so I give them a wide berth. After all, here at Sports Obsessive, we like to report the facts. Having said all that, the one doing the rounds at the moment that Charlotte Flair is going to challenge Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Title at WrestleMania 36 just won’t go away.

This was first reported Monday night/Tuesday morning after Flair showed up on RAW after her Royal Rumble win and didn’t say who she was going to face at the Show of Shows.

All of a sudden the internet was awash with tales of how it was Ripley who was in The Queen’s sights, but as that seemed so ludicrous, I just chose to ignore it.

Now it seems that there might be some validity to these mumblings, as it’s being reported by numerous sites that Charlotte Flair is due to make a surprise appearance on tonight’s episode of NXT.

If this is true then it makes tonight’s show much-watch-TV, but I’d like to add a note of caution here.

First off, saying that she’s going to challenge Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 36 has just given away the ending to the title match between Ripley and Belair for NXT TakeOver Portland.

Can’t challenge her for the strap if she drops it to Bianca now, can she?

Also, considering how behind Belair the company seems to be right now, allowing her to take the record for most eliminations in the Women’s Rumble, then it doesn’t make any sense to me that she’s just going to be used as cannon fodder for this burgeoning feud.

There’s a very good chance that this is all smoke and mirrors, designed to get more viewers to tune into NXT tonight, instead of AEW Dynamite, but you never can tell with the WWE.

There’s always a chance that the Mad Bastard McMahon might just do it to mess with everyone.

We shall have to wait and see if Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley happens.
