Brady Phillips is your new Tidal Championship Wrestling World Champion tonight, February 20th, having beaten the man with the gold, ‘The Krooser Weight’ Will Kroos, at the British promotion’s Wipeout 2022 show from Parish, Huddersfield

The current British Wrestling scene is, after a small lull, once again displaying the vibrancy and excitement which we perhaps took for granted only six or seven short years ago. There are many reasons why: great talent like Charles Crowley, Lizzy Evo, and Chris Ridgeway, amongst many others, and great fresh promotions like Wrestle Carnival, CATCH Pro, and Spirit Wrestling breathing new life into the circuit and giving talent more places to ply their trade.

One of the bigger and most entertaining promotions currently on the UK scene is Tidal Championship Wrestling, having run since 2013. Since their return from the pandemic, however, Tidal seems to have found new momentum, much like the British wrestling scene itself.

If you know me and have read my work on here before, you’ll know I’m a big fan of the ‘Krooserweight,‘ but Brady Phillips is a great talent in his own right and very deserving and capable of a run at the top of a promotion. Kroos and Phillips have history, of course, with Brady having gotten the win in the first two matches in 2019 and Kroos finally getting the win at British Wrestling Revolution’s The Last Stand show in December.

A further standoff between the two at Tidal seemed to be inevitable, with Grapple Theory, reviewing their slower-paced match at The Last Stand, statingI would get the feeling that when they finally face off again in TIDAL (they seem to be almost purposely being kept apart while being built as the separate ‘aces’ of that promotion, so the eventual meeting will feel MASSIVE to followers of that group) they would have a completely different type of match again for that environment.

That seems to be the case, with a clip doing the rounds of Brady Phillips leaping off a lighting scaffold onto Will Kroos in a cool daredevil moment! Even more exciting are the photos of an ecstatic Brady Phillips holding the belt up in triumph. The era of Brady has begun!

I’m still a Will Kroos fan though…

Sports Obsessive gives our congratulations to Brady Phillips on his title win.

Many thanks to Jack Bacon for kindly letting me use his personal photos of the match!
