STARDOM Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 Review

STARDOM | Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer | 4th July 2021 | 5:00pm JST | Yokohama Budokan, Kanagawa | Full Review

Match One: Gauntlet Tag-Team Match—Maika [Donna del Mondo] & Lady C Vs Hanan [STARS] & Hina [Queens Quest] vs. Saki Kashima & Rina [Oedo Tai] vs. Konami & Fukigen Death ★ [Oedo Tai]

Match One of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer | Maikia [Donna del Mondo] & Lady C  Vs Hanan [STARS] & Hina [Queens Quest] Vs Saki Kashima & Rina [Oedo Tai] Vs Konami & Fukigen Death [Oedo Tai]

This match is just a whole load of fun and a great way to kick off Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer. The first two teams enter the ring and after a bit of back and forth Rina eliminates the team of Hanan of STARS & Hina of Queens Quest.

Now the Oedo Tai team must face off against Maika and Lady C, it seems a possibility that Lady C will be joining Donna del Mondo, considering how often they have tagged together and the bond that seems to be forming between the rookie and the faction members. Rina’s frustrations in being unable to beat Maika start to become her downfall as she starts to make little mistakes, resulting in Maika picking up the win. But with one team from Oedo Tai defeated, can Lady C and Maika do it for a second time?

Konami & Fukigen Death ★ have been a great partnership as of late, the two women working well together. The odd-couple pairing of the comedic Fukigen Death ★ and the powerful shooter Konami is a joy to watch. The real highlight of this match is the back and forth between Konami and Maika; they are cut from the same cloth with the two trading power moves, submission holds and hard kicks. Fukigen Death ★ picks up the win for her team, pinning Lady C.

Winner: Konami & Fukigen Death ★ [Oedo Tai]

Match Two: Momo Watanabe & AZM [Queen’s Quest] vs. Starlight Kid & Ruaka [Oedo Tai]

Match Two of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer

Starlight Kid, who is now darker and meaner, joining Oedo Tai was a stroke of genius and has really elevated her in-ring work while also allowing her to expand her character, exploring the darker side of her personality. Here she teams up with Ruaka, who joined the faction a few months ago after betraying her old faction STARS, whose members have been depleting due to their high stakes feud with Oedo Tai.

Tonight, Oedo Tai face off against the unstoppable team of AZM and Momo Watanabe of Queens Quest. Dark Starlight Kid and AZM start off this bout moving fast, neither one getting the upper hand. These two women are two of the most talented and interesting young stars on the Stardom roaster. Ruaka is relatively new in Stardom, and it shows, but that hasn’t stopped her from improving and embracing her devious side since joining Oedo Tai. Her style is more smash-mouth than anything else and she seems to take on a more traditional enforcer role, but she is more than just an obstacle for the team from Queens Quest.

Momo Watanabe is someone to watch; with her in-ring skills and ability to get a crowd behind her, it won’t be long until she is at the top of the card. If you like the in-ring work of Io Shirai, then Momo Watanabe might be your new favourite wrestler. The match is a phenomenal display of speed, technique and hard-hitting moves that culminate in Queens Quest getting the victory, despite some cheating from the villainous Oedo Tai.

Winner: AZM [Queen’s Quest] via a Azumi Sushi

Match Three: Future of STARDOM Championship Match—Mina Shirakawa [COSMIC ANGELS] vs. Sayaka Unagi [COSMIC ANGELS]

Match Three of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer

With Saya Iida having to vacate the belt due to injury, we have finally reached the finals of the Future of STARDOM Championship tournament, which will see teammates and friends Mina Shirakawa and Sayaka Unagi of COSMIC ANGELS face off for one of the most important belts in the company.

Both women have a solid foundation in submission wrestling and aerial moves, and even though the two are friends, that doesn’t stop them from bringing it to each other in the ring. The match is nice and clean but really shows off how well the two women of COSMIC ANGELS know each other.

Winner: Mina Shirakawa [COSMIC ANGELS] NEW Future of STARDOM Champion via an Implant DDT.

Match Four: Goddess of STARDOM Championship Match— Giulia & Syuri [Donna del Mondo] (C) vs. Mayu Iwatani & Koguma [STARS]

Match Four | Goddess of STARDOM Championship Match | Giulia & Syuri [Donna del Mondo] (C) Vs Mayu Iwatani & Koguma [STARS]

Mayu Iwatani is one of the three pillars of the success of STARDOM and we are about to see why. Giulia and Syuri are sporting a new look for the team of Donna del Mondo. They are really proving that the faction is a unit of badass fighters, an army of their own, and they are determined to keep their championships tonight.

This match is a hard-hitting affair, with Koguma taking the brunt of the attacks from Donna del Mondo. Giulia has a definite mean streak and it shows, while Syuri is so technically sound that the pair have grown together and now work as a well-oiled machine. Koguma has been retired from in-ring competition for the last six years, returning to save Mayu Iwatani from an Oedo Tai attack. She hasn’t missed a step, flying off the top rope to the floor at one point in this match. This bout is lots of fun, with some fantastically inventive moments of pure joy and danger all rolled into one.

Winner: Giulia [Donna del Mondo] via a Northern Lights Bomb

Match Five: Wonder of STARDOM Championship Match—Tam Nakano [COSMIC ANGELS] (C) vs. Saya Kamitani [Queens Quest]

Match Five of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer

Saya Kamitani has been on an absolute tear in recent months, and it’s all culminated in a title match for the Wonder of STARDOM championship against champion Tam Nakano of COSMIC ANGELS.

The match starts off with a test of power, the two women feeling each other out before the real fighting begins. The two women show off their submission skills before Saya Kamitani impresses the crowd with her athletic ability, transitioning from a collection of backwards handsprings into a dropkick. Tam Nakano is working the limbs of Kamitani while stretching her abdomen, which is her weak spot after being attacked last month by members of Oedo Tai.

Nakano is not just a submission specialist, but she is also thrilling to watch when she gets up on the top rope, flying out to the floor to attack her opponent. Saya Kamitani might be injured and in real pain but that doesn’t stop her from fighting back; she is the phoenix of STARDOM, after all, taking big high-flying risks to the outside and off the turnbuckle. The match really picks up in the last few minutes, the two women hitting hard and bringing everything to the fight.

Winner: Tam Nakano [COSMIC ANGELS] via a Twilight Dream

Match Six: World of STARDOM Championship Match—Utami Hayashishita [Queens Quest] (C) vs. Natsuko Tora [Oedo Tai]

Match Six of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer

Now for the main event of Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer, champion Utami Hayashishita of Queens Quest faces off against the leader of Oedo Tai Natsuko Tora.

The two women go straight down to the mat, trying to out-grapple each other. This match is a hard-hitting affair, with the two women really focusing on their groundwork, submission game and a more amateur style.  Hard chops from both competitors follow, each intent on hurting the other, but Natsuko Tora is too strong, chopping the champion down to the mat.

Utami heads to the top rope, only to be taken out by Konami, allowing Natsuko Tora to get her out onto the floor, setting up a table while the rest of Oedo Tai attack the champion. After a few more moments of fighting on the outside between Oedo Tai and a few members of STARS and Queens Quest, Tora retrieves her metal pipe and gets rid of the distractions. She puts Utami Hayashishita back onto the table before climbing to the top rope, putting her opponent through the table with a huge frog splash.

Natsuko Tora jumps out of the ring, giving Utami a huge stomp to the back before collapsing clutching at her knee. The PPV ended abruptly, as Tora tried to fight on but couldn’t, resulting in the main event being called off.

Winner: Utami Hayashishita [Queens Quest] via Referee Stoppage

Final Thoughts

This show was great from top to bottom, fully showcasing how deep and talented the STARDOM roaster is. Highlights for me from Yokohama Dream Cinderella 2021 in Summer include Starlight Kid embracing her dark side, Rina and Lady C showing off their chemistry and skill inside the ring and the Main Event, even though it was cut short.

Everyone here at Sports Obsessive and 25YL Media wishes Natsuko Tora a speedy recovery, we can’t wait for your return to STARDOM. We will keep you updated when we know more.
