NXT: TakeOver Portland Predictions Showdown

The Royal Rumble Predictions Showdown saw The Evil Overlord Grevas take the win inaugural win and life has been hell ever since.

The constant gloating, the never-ending demands that we address him as Master of the Wrestling Universe, you can’t imagine what we’ve had to endure, but salvation is only ever one PPV away and thankfully NXT: TakeOver Portland is this Sunday.

Will someone, anyone, be able to take the victory here and stop The Power Mad Grevas in his continuing quest for wrestling domination? Will The Professor, Conor O’Donnell, use his vast knowledge of sports entertainment to bring home the win? Will The Flack save us all with a miraculous face comeback on par with anything Roman Reigns has ever managed? Or will your friendly neighborhood wrestling writer show that he actually does know what he’s talking about and he hasn’t been just winging it all these years?

Read on to find out.

Finn Balor vs Johnny Gargano

Finn Balor vs Johnny Gargano

The Flack: This should be a great match up. Expect it to be closely fought, with Balor just stealing the win, setting up a rematch, possibly at the next TakeOver.
Winner: Finn Balor

Andrew Grevas: Balor needs the win here as he continues to re-establish himself as one of the best in not only NXT but the company as a whole. And let’s face it, there’s nobody better than Johnny Wrestling at getting over even in defeat.
Winner: Finn Balor

Neil Gray: I’ve been saying Balor’s going to win this from the outset, he’s after another run with the NXT title and when Ciampa beats Cole, he’ll have him and Goldie firmly in his sights.
Winner: Finn Balor

Conor O’Donnell: Winner: Finn Balor

Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai

Street Fight: Tegan Nox vs. Dakota Kai

The Flack: This should be an interesting scrap. I give the edge to Dakota here.
Winner: Dakota Kai

Andrew Grevas: Traditional booking logic dictates that Nox gets the win here but Kai has a chance to cement herself as a ruthless heel who gets truly elevated to the next level with a win. I’m going Kai and expecting big things from her in 2020.
Winner: Dakota Kai

Neil Gray: Well, I’m going to buck the trend here. No real reason, other than I need to pick up points somewhere if I’m going to get out of last place.
Winner: Tegan Nox

Conor O’Donnell: Winner: Dakota Kai

Keith Lee vs. Dominik Dijakovic

NXT North American Championship: Keith Lee vs. Dominik Dijakovic

The Flack: Lee is super over with the NXT faithful right now, and is getting props from across the WWE universe. I expect his push to continue here unabated.
Winner: Keith Lee

Andrew Grevas: The big guys should go all out here as they both continue to prove that they’re each the real deal. Way too soon to take the title off Lee here though. Champ retains and this match should be talked about for a while after.
Winner: Keith Lee

Neil Gray: Short of the earth exploding, there’s no way in hell they’re taking the title off of Lee.
Winner: Keith Lee

Conor O’Donnell: Phase 1: book Keith Lee beating up people. Phase 2: Profit
Winner: Keith Lee

Undisputed Era vs. The Broserweights

NXT Tag-Team Championship: Undisputed Era vs. The Broserweights

The Flack: This should be a great match. Riddle and Dunne make an unexpected yet bruising combo and, if NXT were to pursue a ‘UE going through a shaky period, how do they react’ storyline, a win for the bros here might be the way forward.
Winners: The Broserweights

Andrew Grevas: The cracks are beginning to form in the Undisputed Era and I’m calling title change here in what could be the pop of the night. Really looking forward to this one.
Winners: The Broserweights

Neil Gray: As soon as Riddle and Dunne were announced for the Dusty Classic, it was a forgone conclusion that they’d win it and the same applies here. The Undisputed Era isn’t breaking up but I expect them to leave NXT after Wrestlemania and head to the main roster, which means they drop all the gold this weekend.
Winners: The Broserweights

Conor O’Donnell: Winners: Undisputed Era

Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair

NXT Women’s Championship: Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair

The Flack: I’m not the biggest fan of Belair, who I tend to see as the weak link of the best women’s division in any American promotion at the moment. Still, Ripley is great and it should be a good match ultimately. Expect Ripley to win and Charlotte Flair to come out and confirm the Wrestlemania match up.
Winner: Rhea Ripley

Andrew Grevas: This is a tough one, the hardest of all for me personally. Belair is coming off that amazing Royal Rumble performance and conventional wisdom should dictate a win for her, but taking the title off Ripley before Mania feels completely wrong. Champ retains here.
Winner: Rhea Ripley

Neil Gray: I hate to agree with my fellow wrestling writers here, so I’m not going to. The safe money is on Ripley retaining, but for some reason, I can’t shake the feeling that the WWE wants to make the Wrestlemania event a triple-threat. And there’s always TakeOver Tampa the night before the Show of Shows for Ripley to win her title back.
Winner: Bianca Belair.

Conor O’Donnell: Bianca has a bright future but the timing isn’t right. Rhea has quite the push going.
Winner: Rhea Ripley

Adam Cole

NXT Championship: Adam Cole vs. Tommaso Ciampa

The Flack: Ciampa is over as hell, and if Cole wins I’m not sure really where they’ll take him from here, but I can’t see them taking the title off Cole just yet. Expect Ciampa to lose, possibly due to UE interference to keep him strong.
Winner: Adam Cole

Andrew Grevas: Going with Cole here. Ciampa chasing the title is the story and while he still may get it back, it won’t be here. Cole’s reign continues a little longer.
Winner: Adam Cole

Neil Gray: I’ve already said I think this is the PPV where the Undisputed Era drop all their gold in preparation for their call up to the main roster and that includes Adam Cole (Bay Bay!). I expect Ciampa to come out of this and into a feud with Finn Balor, and that’s something everyone wants to see, surely?
Winner: Tomasson Ciampa

Conor O’Donnell: Ciampa is my favorite wrestler from the past few years. I’m hoping he gets the title back and gives the Undisputed Era a chance to move on.
Winner: Tomasso Ciampa

NXT Happy

Final Thoughts.

Well, there you have it.

We’ve made our predictions and all that’s left now is to sit and wait for the show to start.

And then cry when we somehow manage to lose once again to our Power Mad Overlord.

As things stand the table currently looks like this;

Andrew Grevas: Five Points

Conor O’Donnell: Four Points

Christopher Flackett: Three Points

Neil Gray: Three Points

So it’s pretty tight all the way down, but a few surprise results and you could see your friendly neighborhood wrestling writer sat atop the tree, not gloating in any way, shape, or form, no siree.

But what about you?

Fancy chancing your arm?

If you do then either leave your predictions in the comments section or find me @TerrorCarnival on Twitter and I’ll be sure to take you into account when NXT: TakeOver Portland is all wrapped up.

There’s no prize for entering, just the satisfaction that you know far more about wrestling than we do.

That is if you manage to beat us.
