Tennessee Titans Vs. Buffalo Bills Week 2

Game Preview

The Tennesse Titans travel to Western New York this week to take on the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. The Bills are heavily favored to win but do not expect Tennessee to lie down or quit. The Titans are a gritty team that will grind until the dying seconds of the game.

Tennessee is looking to bounce back from an embarrassing loss in week one and the Bills are on a high note after handily beating the Super Bowl Champions. Who is going to come out on top? Let’s break it down and find out!

What We Saw Last Week

Buffalo rolled into LA as this year’s Super Bowl favorites and every set of eyes in the nation was glued to this game to see if they could beat the reigning Super Bowl Champs. They won alright! The game was an absolute beat down and embarrassment for the Rams, to be honest. Buffalo rolled over them 31-10.

The Tennessee Titans, on the other hand, lost a close one to the New York Giants 21-20. They had their chances to win the game on several occasions, including the missed field goal attempt from Randy Bullock to end the game. The Titans should be 1-0 coming into Week Two, but instead, they have to lick their wounds and Titan Up.

Buffalo Bills Offense

Last week, Buffalo’s offense faced the best defensive player in the NFL, Aaron Donald. Josh Allen had absolutely zero issues moving the ball, nor did #99 significantly affect the offense as a whole. The reason for this was the game plan. While Donald did get to JA17 once for a sack, Allen got the ball out of his hands in under 2.5 seconds on average. That quick release is too fast for anyone (including Donald) to reach the QB consistently.

Each week I give you a stat line prediction for the Bills. How did I fare in week 1? Here are the final stats compared to my pre-game predictions from my week one preview. I didn’t nail them all, but I will take it.

Tennessee Titans Offense

The Tennesee Titans offense just did not impress last week. Ryan Tannehill limited mistakes by making sure not to turn the ball over, and Derrick Henry had an abysmal day on the ground. The two TDs were passes to Dontrell Hilliard on weak coverage that almost anyone could have scored on.

Overall the game was a slog, but the offense did enough to give them a chance to win. Randy Bullock should have made the 47-yard field goal, and Tennessee should be entering Week 2 with a winning record, not 0-1.

QB:

  • Passing: 20/33/266/2

Derrick Henry:

  • Rushing: 21/82/0

Dontrell Hilliard:

  • Rushing: 2/8/0
  • Receiving: 3/61/2

Buffalo Bills Defense

The Bills’ defense was arguably more impressive than the offense. The story of the game was the defensive lines’ ability to get to Matthew Stafford. The front four dominated the line of scrimmage and got to the QB an extraordinary seven times.

The Bills came into this season ready to go and would not be denied a win in LA to open the season.

  • Passing yards allowed: 240
  • Rushing yards allowed: 52
  • Sacks: 7
  • Interceptions: 3
  • Forced Fumbles: 1
  • Touchdowns allowed: 1
  • Field Goals allowed: 1

Tennesse Titans Defense

Tennesee’s defense was also on display in this game. Jefferey Simmons and Bud Dupree were absolute studs and created havoc for Daniel Jones and the passing game.

Simmons and Dupree combined for three of the team’s five sacks but also seemed to be in Daniel Jones’ face constantly.

  • Passing yards allowed: 188
  • Rushing yards allowed: 238
  • Sacks: 5
  • Interceptions: 1
  • Forced Fumbles: 2
  • Touchdowns allowed: 3
  • Field Goals allowed: 0

Tennessee Titans vs. Buffalo Bills Week 2

Buffalo Bills Keys to Victory

Offense

  • Devin Singletary must be more effective running the ball.
  • James Cook needs to touch the ball early via the passing game.
  • Eliminate the mental errors resulting in needless interceptions.
  • Utilize Dawson Knox more, especially in the red zone.
  • Continue disrupting the defense with Josh Allen’s running game.

Defense

  • Contain Derrick Henry at all costs.
  • Force Tannehill to beat them with his arm and unproven receivers.
  • Get in the face of the QB early and often.

Tennessee Titans Keys to Victory

Offense

  • The offensive line opens gaps for Derrick Henry.
  • A receiver steps up to replace AJ Brown.
  • Contain the Bills’ front four defensive line players.
  • Take advantage of Buffalo’s zone defense and find a hole in the middle of the defense.
  • Convert all red zone opportunities into points.
  • Bullock does not miss field goal tries.

Defense

  • Find ways to get pressure on Josh Allen with the front four.
  • Contain Diggs and force Bills to use other receivers.
  • Keep the ball in front of them, and do not let Allen throw deep.
  • Linebackers continually spy Josh Allen and keep his rushing to a minimum.

Fantasy projections and Final Score Prediction

Stefon Diggs: 9/112/1

Gabe Davis: 5/67/1

Dawson Knox: 6/60/2

Devin Singletary: 7/85/0

James Cook: 3/13/0, 3/28/0 receiving

Tennessee Titans

Derrick Henry: 25/103/1

Robert Woods: 3/42/0

Treylon Burks: 5/48/0

Final Score

There is no reason to expect the Buffalo Bills to sputter this week against a Tennessee Titans squad that has lost too many weapons to compete against one of the NFL’s top offenses. Instead, look for the Bills to maintain their momentum with another lopsided win at home this week.

Bills Win 38-13
