NFL Predictions

KEITH: I love games where squads play each other three times. Especially when both teams won one game each. This game will be the tie-breaker. It should be a treat if you like defence. This game should be a defensive struggle. What usually ends up happening in these types of games are the two teams know each other so well that it takes a big play at the end of the game to settle a winner.

The Seahawks are rolling into the contest winners of four straight and six out of their last seven games. They have primarily been squeaking out games with a resurgent defence. Seattle was one of the best offensive teams to start the season. But since being shut down by the Giants a month ago, their offense has seemed off. DK Metcalf is not getting the big plays he was making for the first ten weeks of the season. Russell Wilson has struggled.

The Rams Preview and Predictions

The Rams are a team in no man’s land. Playing with a backup quarterback John Wolford, the Rams rode a dominating defensive performance to an 18-7 win. They will need that type of performance and more against a Seattle team that has been creating their own havoc on the defensive side of the ball.

I don’t expect Jared Goff back in this game. But in such an even matchup, I don’t know if it would make a difference. This is going to be a hard fought, low scoring game. I don’t see a total reaching 40 in this game. Plus I like the home team with the better QB to pull out a close game and advance. Russell makes a Russell play late giving the Seahawks another victory.

Winner: Seahawks 20-17

TOM: Jared Goff’s injury status will be a major determining factor in this matchup. He missed week 17 after having minor surgery on his thumb. If he is not available this week, we will see John Wolford again. The Seahawks on the other hand are a team that has been hitting its stride lately on the defensive side of the ball. They contained the 49ers to 273 yards passing and only 86 yards rushing. It results in a 26-23 win for Seattle. Goff is questionable at best this week. I do not expect to see him on the field Saturday afternoon. Seattle will win another close game 27-24.

Winner: Seahawks 27-24

CAEMERON: As of this writing it’s not entirely clear whether Jared Goff will be ready to go for the Rams, but I’m going to predict that it won’t matter much. Except maybe in terms of how points are scored. Seattle takes this one easily as they #LetRussCook and their defence looks way better than it did earlier in the season. No matter who is quarterback, L.A. fails to get it going barring a big play here and there.

Winner: Seahawks 38-20

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7.5) at Washington Football Team: (Saturday at 8:15 pm EST NBC)

NFL Predictions

KEITH: Welcome to Tom’s World. The NFC has had to watch in awe the last two decades as Tom Brady and the Patriots seemingly made their way to every Super Bowl played since 2000. Tom has always said the season starts after Thanksgiving and he was right. The Bucs are a dangerous team in my opinion. They have one of the best defences of all the 14 teams in the playoffs. Plus they have a Hall of Fame quarterback that is now hitting his stride with his new squad.

Washington, on the other hand, aren’t very good. They were the tallest midget in the weak NFC East.  Doug Pederson and his “evaluation” of Nate Sudfeld on Sunday Night gave them the win. Washington does feature one of the games best defensive lines. Chase Young is a legitimate superstar that can wreak havoc on Tom Brady and company keeping the game close for awhile. Chase said he wants Brady after winning the NFC East. Like Coach Bruce Arians said, “Be careful what you wish for.” Tom Brady has made much tougher opponents look like fools. I have a hard time seeing Washington beating the Bucs in this one.

My Reasons for My NFL Predictions

Even without Mike Evans who hurt his knee in week 17 I think the Bucs roll in this game. Their defence is too stout and where they are weak (pass defence) the Redskins are unable to attack. Alex Smith is a fighter and he is a winner. But I see too much Brady and company in this game. They win by two scores in my NFL Predictions.

Winner: Tampa Bay 30-20

TOM: Tom Brady and the Buccaneers enter wild card weekend flying high after a sound thrashing of the Atlanta Falcons 44-27. Brady threw four touchdowns with one pick and just shy of 400 yards passing. The Washington Football Team comes into this week lucky to even be here. The Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson benched his starter for a third string backup in Nate Sudfeld early in the fourth quarter. Until that point neither team looked very good. The game was still close. WFT squeaked out a 20-14 win to lock up the NFC East. This game will be competitive for the first half, but Tampa and Tom Brady will triumph 31-20.

Winner: Tampa Bay 31-20

CAEMERON: The Buccaneers have a lot going for them this year, including Tom Brady, but I think the Washington Football Team has their number. If Alex Smith plays which I think is likely, but if he doesn’t, well you can throw this prediction in the trash. With Smith, I see Washington pulling off something similar to their win against Pittsburgh earlier this season. They’ll shut down Tampa Bay’s offense with their formidable defence and a lot of pressure on Brady. This will keep the Bucs’ plays from being able to develop properly. On the other side of the ball, Alex Smith will do his thing by managing the game, throwing a number of short passes, and so on. By the end, we’ll see Brady frustrated on the side-line and throwing his helmet to the ground. Personally, this will always make me smile.

Winner: Washington 24-20

Chicago Bears at New Orleans Saints (-9.5): (Sunday at 4:40 pm EST CBS)

NFL Predictions

KEITH: The Nickelodeon game. I love this by the way. The NFL tries to remain meaningful in all sorts of ways. I think it’s cool they are bringing in Nickelodeon to have a new take, not the NFL. I think major league baseball should experiment with some of these ideas before the sport becomes extinct. Speaking of extinct, the Bears should have been extinct from these playoffs, but Kyler Murray got hurt. The Bears lost their way into the playoffs.

Coming in at 8-8, the Bears were able to salvage their season after losing six in a row. They looked like one of the worst teams in football. They found a formula using David Montgomery, a remade offensive line, and super short passing game. Mitch Trubisky is one of the worst starting QB’s in the NFL. I am a Bears fan. I’m telling you the Saints deserved a bye more than the Bears deserved to be the first NFC seventh seed.

My Reason For My NFL Predictions

I think that matters very little, anything can happen, but I think this is the biggest snoozer of all the playoff games. The Saints are riding high. Drew Brees has shaken off the rust that would come to any mere mortal who broke 11 ribs and punctured a lung. Now with Michael Thomas set to suit up. Alvin Kamara looking to avenge his Covid-19 outbreak. He tied the NFL record for most touchdowns in a game. The record was held by the Chicago Bears’ Gale Sayers. I think this game gets out of hand early.

The Bears have looked better on offense. Against the Packers last week, they looked like a team that should be sitting on the couch. However, they aren’t. The Bears fans will be treated to one more shellacking. Just think if the Bears would have selected Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson instead of Mitch Trubisky. The Bears are worse in every area of the game. I see no way they can make this game competitive. I believe the Saints get up early. Then Mitch Trubisky really becomes a pumpkin. The Bears will continue to get pummelled. The Saints ride to an easy win.

Winner: Saints 37-10

TOM: Call me crazy, but I still do not believe in the Mitch Trubisky Revival Band. The Saints are too good. They will have both Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas ready to go this week. Drew Brees is recovering nicely and should be able to find the end zone more than once. The Saints defence finished the regular season fourth against the run. They will bring David Montgomery and the Bears offense back to reality.

Winner: Saints 28-17

CAEMERON: I have Trubisky on a dynasty fantasy team. So I really hope that he has a great day and a great career ahead of him. But that’s not what I am predicting when the Bears face off against New Orleans in the first round of the playoffs. I see Mitch turning the ball over multiple times. The Saints defence that is better than many might realize pressures him and generally mucks things up for Chicago. On the other side, I see the Bears generally just getting picked apart by the New Orleans offense. However, I am also going to predict that Taysom Hill burns them hard.

Winner: Saints 31-17
