College Football: Week Three

Games and Predictions

Well, we received great news this week college football with the Big Ten coming back! Problem is…not this week and I hate to tell you this. The SEC is not back this week either, but next week we get them. I’m happy that football is back, but it’s basically another cupcake week for the Big 12 and ACC. Let’s look at some of the games this week and let Sports Obsessive tell you all about them.

Houston (0-0) at Baylor (0-0), Saturday, 11 a.m., Fox

The only reason I’m starting with this game is because it is the first football being shown on Saturday. Houston and Baylor weren’t scheduled to play this year, but since Covid-19 took out their opponents they put this together. The state of Texas is happy since they haven’t played since 1995. But Houston is so bad that I can’t see anyone being excited for long. Look for Baylor big.
Pick: Baylor

College Football: Austin Peay (0-2) at No. 13 Cincinnati (0-0), Saturday, 11 a.m., ESPN+

Don’t write! Yes, I know this starts at 11am too, but since it is on ESPN+, we know it will start behind the Baylor game. If you think that one will be boring, this one definitely will be unless you love watching Cincy score. The Bearcats have 16 returning starters and their last two college football seasons have been 11 win seasons. Austin Pray is still an up and coming FCS opponent. It will be a total blowout.

Pick: Cincinnati

Tulsa (0-0) at No. 11 Oklahoma State (0-0), Saturday, 11 a.m., ESPN

Coach Mike Gundy has been in the news all summer long about a shirt advertising an conservative news shirt. This caused an uproar among many players including his star running back, Chuba Hubbard. All these team issues shouldn’t cause any major problems for Oklahoma State in this game.

Pick: Oklahoma State

South Florida (1-0) at No. 7 Notre Dame (1-0), Saturday, 1:30 p.m., USA

I still can’t believe that Notre Dame has joined the ACC. I know it is only for one season, but I plan on enjoying it thoroughly. They barely beat Duke last week 27-13 in South Bend. I thought Notre Dame’s defense looked good, but I don’t think they can beat the spread on this game. It’s -25.5 points. If you are doing the money line then take Notre Dame, but otherwise take South Florida and the points in the college football sports books.
Pick: South Florida (+25.5)

No. 14 UCF (0-0) at Georgia Tech (1-0), Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ABC

I’m going to be honest with you  This might be one of the better games of this cupcake week. I think it will be back and forth all game. UCF is ranked. Everyone always says they don’t play anyone, so they don’t deserve their ranking  Well, if UCF win this one then they can start talking this season. Remember Georgia Tech beat Florida State 16-13 last week. I think it is a very good game, but UCF start your talking.

Pick: UCF

No. 24 Appalachian State (1-0) at Marshall (1-0), Saturday, 2:30 p.m., CBS

For those of you who don’t know I’m on the Marshall University bandwagon. This is the 50th anniversary of their football plane going down that is told in We Are Marshall. Plus I’m from West Virginia and went at one time to Marshall University. Appy State barely won against Charlotte with a fourth quarter 14 point comeback. However, Marshall’s new quarterback Grant Wells had a coming out party last week by throwing for 307 yards. I’m picking the upset. Let’s go Marshall! We all are Marshall this season.

Pick: Marshall (+5)

No. 17 Miami, Fla. (1-0) at No. 18 Louisville (1-0), Saturday, 6:30 p.m., ABC

This is the only ranked game of the week. Should they be ranked? I’m not sure since both are ACC. I’m not really into this one especially with the Miami Hurricanes in it. The Hurricanes’ defense has to hold Louisville in this game. The Cardinals’ quarterback, Micale Cunningham had a big week last week with 343 yards. He’ll need another one this week. I’m taking the Cards.

Pick: Louisville

So who are YOU picking in each college football game? Is there a game you wanted picked that I didn’t? Let us know right here in the comments on Sports Obsessive!
