College Football National Championship

Alabama vs Ohio State

Hey everyone, this is Sam and let’s talk about tonight’s College Football National Championship game. As many of you know I’m a big Florida Gator fan, so I’m rooting for the SEC. It is crazy though that the Big Ten almost chose not to play this season due to Covid-19. Well, we should look at both teams and see the advantages and disadvantages.

2020 has been the most bizarre and craziness season that I have ever experienced. Maybe it is the weirdest one in college football history. Tonight is the big game of this crazy season. We are getting #1 Alabama against #3 Ohio State at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. This game has two unbeaten teams with nine projected first-round draft picks in it. Right now, the Crimson Tide are an 8-point favourite after Ohio State has been dealing with Covid-19 problems all week. On top of that their quarterback Justin Fields has a rib injury.

Alabama College Football Playoffs History

The Crimson Tide has 17 National Championships which is the third most in the history of college football. They have participated in four of the six college football playoffs since 2014. They have won two championships (2015 and 2017). If they win tonight would be the sixth one in the last twelve seasons.

Ohio State College Football Playoffs History

The Buckeyes have eight national championships behind them. They went to three of the six college football playoffs since it started. This is their first championship appearance since winning it all in 2014. Coach Ryan Day will be coaching in his first National Championship game.

Who to Watch Tonight

The Alabama Crimson Tide and The Ohio State Buckeyes are NFL player factories. They have combined to produce an unbelievable 31 first-round picks since 2016. This year, these two teams have eleven of EsPN’s Todd McShay’s top 50 prospects.

For Alabama Tonight: DeVonta Smith, WR (4th); Patrick Surtain II, CB (7th); Jaylen Waddle (11th); Christian Barmore, DT (20th); Najee Harris, RB (27th); Mac Jones, QB (32nd)

For Ohio State Tonight: Justin Fields, QB (9th); Wyatt Davis, G (24th); Chris Olave, WR (34th); Shaun Wade, CB (41st); Pete Werner, ILB (49th)

What Can You Look For Tonight:

Ohio State RB Trey Sermon has rushed for 636 yards in his last three games. That’s 9.1 per carry! Seriously!!!

Alabama’s Najee Harris has averaged 115.6 per game which is 12th in the nation. However, the Buckeyes allowed only 89.1 yards per game which is 2nd in the nation. This includes just 32 yards to Clemson’s Travis Etienne.

Ohio State spent more on athletics than any other school in fiscal 2019. They spent $220.6 million. Alabama was fourth with $185.3 million. Can you imagine that’s $405.9 million in athletics with just two schools?

What Storylines Should You Watch Tonight?

I think we have to concentrate on the Alabama offensive attack.  They are so we’ll balanced and scored on over 50% of their possessions in every game, but one. It was the Mississippi State game where they were 6 for 13 in their 41-0 win. Alabama fans will definitely say it is only because they pulled their starters early.

Will The Ohio State Buckeyes be able to use their blitz to pressure The Crimson Tide? Experts believe the best way to slow down Alabama is constantly pressuring them to make quick decisions. Ohio State has a dominant front seven.

Ohio State has been extremely mysterious about their QB Justin Fields’ injury. Other than he has a rib injury that was suffered against Clemson, Ohio State hasn’t been open about it. On the Alabama side, there are rumors that Jalen Waddle could line up at receiver for The Tide. He had missed most of the season, but had been working on coming back for the playoffs or national championship game.
