Hey everyone this is Sam and we need to breakdown the Monday Night Football games for you. First up, we have the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers going up against the Washington Football Team. So can Pittsburgh go 12-0? After that we have the Buffalo Bills going up against the San Francisco 49ers at 8:20pm. Some of my co-workers got together to give you their takes on the games.
Washington at Pittsburgh (FOX, 5:00pm)
Not sure that the Steelers thought that they would ever get to play the Ravens, but I know they never dreamed then they would play the Washington Football Team five days later. Pittsburgh is on one of the easiest road for an undefeated team in a long time. Washington is their fourth losing team in five weeks. They are 4-7, but they are still in a playoff position due to playing in the NFC East. Can you see Washington getting on a winning streak with an upset on the road?
KEITH: I like the Washington Football Team to eeek out a victory 24-21. Steelers look flat after only 5 days rest. Washington has a mini-bye and Rivera is a good coach. I say Washington ground out a W with Antonio Gibson and Terry McScorin.
Winner: Washington 24-31
TOM: The Washington Football Team enters this matchup a massive underdog, but should not be counted out so quickly. Washington defensive front has a very good front four who rank 12th vs the run and a very impressive 2nd vs the pass. Antonio Gibson and Washingtons run game will struggle mightily vs the 5th ranked Steelers run defense, while the passing offense led by Alex Smith will suffer even worse versus the Steelers number one ranked pass defense.
I still think Gibson gets into the endzone for a TD on 18 carries for 80 yards on the ground but not much more. Terry McLaurin will see a lot of double coverage and post 78 yards on 6 catches. The Steelers have struggled as of late but have still found a way to grind out a win. Do not count on Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland to produce much on the ground this week. I have Snell leading the back field with 15 carries for 65 yards and a TD. Through the air I am giving Diontae Johnson 9 catches for 90 yards and a TD. Chase Claypool will have a slightly better day on fewer targets with 6 catches for 110 and a TD.
Winner: Pittsburgh 27-12
I’m tempted to call an upset for the Washington Football Team over Pittsburgh, but honestly I think the latter is as good as their record indicates. I do think Washington will control the time of possession, with Alex Smith dinking and dunking all over the place while the Steelers score quickly when the ball is in their hands. By the fourth quarter, their vaunted defense will get tired and we’ll see a barrage of points from both sides.
Winner: Pittsburgh 38-31
Buffalo Bills at San Francisco 49ers (ESPN, 8:20pm)
Well San Francisco probably never thought that they would be calling Glendale, Arizona their home field. Of course, this year is a crazy year. The 49ers will be calling Arizona home for the next two weeks due to Covid-19 restrictions in their county. Both teams are looking towards the playoffs. Buffalo has an 8-3 record and is in first place in the AFC East. San Francisco is 5-6, but just a game behind the Arizona Cardinals for the last wild-card spot in the NFC.
KEITH: I like Buffalo in a higher scoring game. I’ll say 30-27. Uncommon opponents. I say they score some points. Josh Allen has a big day running and throwing with four total touchdowns.
Winner: Buffalo 30-27
TOM: Buffalo Bills travel back to Arizona to face a 49ers team fresh off of an upset over the Rams. The Bills have a sour taste in their mouths after the last trip to State Farm Stadium and are eager to leave there with a win this time around. San Francisco has played well and has a very good defense ranking 3rd in the NFL vs the pass and 7th against the rush. They have held three of the top rushing QBs in the league to a measly 4.9 yards per carry, and Josh Allen will not fare a lot better in this one.
San Francisco issue will be on offense led by a game manager in Nick Mullens. I think the Bills defense will bend but not break as they have done eight previous times this season. Diggs and Gabe Davis will combine for a measly 130 yards through the air with one TD each. Look for Tyler Bass to once again be the hero of this game with 4 field goals.
Winner: Buffalo 26-17
I’m not sure if Buffalo is as good as they seem to be or if the Niners are as bad as I think they are, but I’m going to predict that the answer to both is yes. The Bills control all aspects of the game in this one, as San Francisco just doesn’t seem to be able to get anything together. We’ll be left thinking that Deebo Samuel looked pretty good, but that’s about it.
Winner: Buffalo 28-10
