NFL Week 2: The Thirsty Three

The Thirsty Three is back with 3 NFL picks against the spread

Traditionally, Week One is a struggle with NFL Gambling. There are so many unknowns with teams, everyone is trying to figure out what version of these teams will show up this year. The Thirsty Three didn’t go how I would have liked. The beauty, there is always next week to get right. The Thirsty Three is here to win you money and that is fully what I intend to do this week, in the NFL Week 2.

Accountability

The Thirsty Three came up a bit short last week. Going 1-2 hopefully didn’t bankrupt folks too much but the goal is always 3-0 and NFL Week 2 should gets us back on track.

The Vikings were dominated upfront but still had many chances to win and cover that game on the road. The Bengals defensive line is vastly improved and that needs to be considered going forward.

The 49ers were up 41-17 and had some weird things happened to allowed the Lions to get back into the game. The truth is they dominated this game and the spread shouldn’t have been this close.

The crazy of the week was the Packers not even showing up against the Saints in Jacksonville. Aaron Rodgers has a losing record in Florida and he showed it last Sunday. The Packers were absolutely embarrassed by Jamies Winston and the Saints. The Saints have a great pass rush and a good secondary and they gave Rodgers hell all game. I missed that one.

If you count the bonus, I hope you read until the end, in the bonus game I had the Rams beating the Bears and the Rams did just that, easily covering the 7.5 on their way to a 20 point blow out.

Like Belicek would say, onto NFL Week 2.

Week 2

NE Patriots vs. the New York Jets

Patriots -6

The Patriots are coming off of an emotional 1 point loss to division foes the Miami Dolphins. The Jets are flying home after a lopsided effort against the Panthers that moved them to 0-1 as well. Zach Wilson looked every bit of a rookie in the first half and turned it around in the second half to make it a closer game.

Damian Harris is the key this week. The Jets run defense can be exposed on the ground. They are hobbled and Saleh needs to continue to add defensive talent to improve the Jets defense. I believe Damian Harris runs wild vs. the Jets with at least 100 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Mac Jones was spotty as well in his first game as a pro but he is a smart NFL ready prospect that will continue to grow as he moving forward. Bill Belicek has notoriously given rookie QB’s fits and his next victim will be Zach Wilson. Belicek knows that Wilson likes to throw to Corey Davis so the game plan will be to take Davis away from Wilson and make the Jets play left handed.

Remember when Justin Herbert was on fire until he faced a Belicek lead team at home? This Belicek defense is better than last year and Justin Herbert is better than Zach Wilson. Gimme the Patriots on the road with the points

Final Score: Patriots 24 – Jets 17

LA Rams vs. the Indianapolis Colts

Rams -3.5

The way the Rams dismantled the Bears and the Colts fizzled at home against the Seahawks I would expect this spread to be higher so this will be a closer game than many think.

The Rams are simply the better team with the better QB. The Colts will be the more desperate team but the Rams are more talented. The Colts don’t want to go 0-2 at home to start so they would be advised to feed Jonathon Taylor early and often. The one area where the Rams looked suspect was in run defense

The Rams aren’t as good as they looked against the Bears. The Bears are a bad football team. Stafford will be bothered on the road and could force a few turnovers against the Colts active defensive front. This will be a defensive struggle for the most part but the Rams will get a few explosive plays where the Colts will fizzle with struggling Quarterback Carson Wentz continuing to disappoint with his new team.

I believe the Rams defensive line controls this game and Stafford makes a few big plays.

Give me the Rams

Final Score: Rams 27- Colts 21

Denver Broncos vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars

Broncos -6

The Jaguars looked bad in week one. Like 1-15 bad. Wait, they were 1-15 a season ago. There is talent on the Jaguars but getting destroyed by the Texans is not a good look for Urban Meyer in his NFL debut.

The Broncos looked like a complete team against the NY Giants in week one. The Broncos are a well coached team with loads of talent everywhere on the field. Steady Teddy Bridgewater is exactly that, steady. The Broncos seem like a good QB away from being legit Super Bowl contenders and in this game they will not need spectacular play from their QB to dominate.

The Broncos should be led by their rushing game against a Jags team that just got gashed by the Frankenstein backfield of Ingram, Lindsay, and Johnson on the Texans. This game seems like a trap. A road favorite with a heavy line but the Jaguars need to clean up a lot and the Broncos look like they are on a mission to take down the Chiefs.

Give me the Broncos in another two score blowout.

Final Score: Broncos 27- Jaguars 14

In the End…

That’s it good people. The Thirsty Three is back and will get you back in good graces with you bookie. Make sure to cheers those you love, raise your glass whatever you are drinking and keep having fun.

In honor of a comedian I loved as a kid passing away this week, I’d like to leave everyone with a quote by the late great Norm MacDonald.

“Gambling is a disease, but it’s a disease where you can win a lot of money. So…” Write it on my tombstone! HA.

Rest in peace Normy Mc D. Laughter is the best medicine. The second best is winning money. Let’s make it happen, starting with NFL Week 2!
