Three Fights That Need to Happen After UFC 270

UFC 270 Fight Graphic

UFC 270 was the first pay-per-view of the year for the promotion this past Saturday night in Anaheim, California.

We saw the heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou have his first successful title defense against former teammate and interim champion Ciryl Gane by forcing the fight down to the ground, something Francis was not known to do throughout his career. We saw Brandon Moreno losing his flyweight strap in a fight of the night thriller against arch-rival Deiveson Figueiredo by unanimous decision in the third chapter of their rivalry.

Now, we take a look at three fights that these main events have caused for consideration of future bouts.

#3. Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno IV

Moreno vs Figueiredo needs to be made after UFC 270

This heated rivalry is far from over. The first bout saw these two flyweight gladiators go to a draw causing the rematch to happen where we saw Brandon Moreno score the submission victory over Figueiredo. Which then was followed up by the booking of their third fight at UFC 270.

The fight was decided in unanimous favor for Figueiredo but many felt Moreno won that bout, causing a lot of controversy.

The UFC has never had a pair of fighters meet four times in their careers but perhaps they have found the UFC’s version of Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in these two men.

Seeing as Moreno won his fight by submission stoppage it’s enough to warrant a fourth meeting to settle this historic rivalry. Both men would meet each other for the fourth consecutive fight in their careers.

#2. Ciryl Gane vs Stipe Miocic

Miocic vs Gane

This one comes from an easy booking for the sake of careers and rankings. Ciryl Gane is the former interim heavyweight champion fresh off his loss to Francis Ngannou.

He’s the young and rising fighter who’s 10-1 with a bright future looking to get back to the title picture with wins already over Derrick Lewis, Alexander Volkov, Junior Dos Santos, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Stipe Miocic is the former undisputed heavyweight champion who last March was knocked out by Francis Ngannou. He’s the veteran lion who lost his title in a rematch after having successful title defenses against Francis Ngannou, Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, and Daniel Cormier.

Miocic at this point of his career has done it all and the only thing left for him in his illustrious career as a heavyweight great is to recapture the heavyweight title against a third fight with Ngannou. To do that, the Ohio native would have to go through the young lion in Gane to do so.

#1. Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones

Ngannou vs Jones
It is the fight fans have been waiting forever since Jon Jones vacated his light heavyweight title to move up to heavyweight over a year ago.

Jon Jones by many has been considered the UFC greatest fighter of all time with a 26-1 record with the only loss of his career coming from a disqualification. Jonny ‘Bones’ Jones has been teasing his heavyweight arrival after dominating the light heavyweight for a decade but has yet to announce his bout agreement.

Francis Ngannou has patiently waited since defeating Stipe Miocic last March for the highly anticipated fight against Jones. After incorporating a wrestling style of offense against Gane it makes it all the much more interesting against Jones all-around style of fighting.

Ngannou is currently dealing with knee injuries and contract negotiations with the UFC so it may be a while before ‘The Predator’ returns but when he does here’s to hope Jones is also ready to make his heavyweight debut.
