NFL Week 15 Point Spread Picks

Credit: NFL.com

Welcome to my NFL Week 15 point spread picks column. I went 8-6 last week for my column on SportsObsessive. I now have an overall record of 118-90 on the season. You can always check out all of my previous picks from this link. I have picked against the spread for every NFL game in the last seven seasons and I currently have an overall record of 1117-962 in that time. Every team is in action this week because every team has now had their bye week. There will be one Thursday game, two Saturday games, twelve Sunday games and a Monday night contest on the slate this week. Let me know what you think of my picks in the comments below.

Thursday, December 16th

Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) @ Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) Line: Chiefs 2 1/2

We’ve got a great divisional matchup to kickoff the week. The Chiefs are currently riding a six game winning streak, while the Chargers have won three out of their last four contests. Too much has been made of Patrick Mahomes not putting up the same numbers as in previous seasons, however their offense is ranked fourth in the NFL. I expect the Chiefs to cover and win by at least 3 points. Pick: Chiefs

Saturday, December 18th

Las Vegas Raiders (6-7) @ Cleveland Browns (7-6) Line: Browns by 2 1/2

This is an important matchup for the playoff hopes of both teams. There are currently 8 teams in the AFC with a record between 7-6 and 6-7 vying for a spot in the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Browns they have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic this week. They currently have 11 players on the Covid list, including QB Baker Mayfield, WR Jarvis Landry, TE Austin Hooper and head coach Kevin Stefanski. I believe that this will be enough players to significantly affect the outcome of the game. Pick: Raiders

New England Patriots (9-4) @ Indianapolis Colts (7-6) Line: Colts by 2 1/2

The Patriots have won six games in a row. The Colts have won four out of their last five contests. The Patriots are the third best team in the NFL against the spread at 9-4 on the season. New England is also a perfect 6-0 on the road this season. I am expecting them to win their seventh in a row this week. Pick: Patriots

Sunday, December 19th

Carolina Panthers (5-8) @ Buffalo Bills (7-6) Line: Bills by 10 1/2

This is a battle of the top ranked Bills defense versus the second ranked Panthers defense. Both of these teams are currently enduring cold streaks after hot starts to the season. The Panthers started the season 3-0 but have now lost eight of their last ten games. The Bills, meanwhile, began the season at 4-1 before losing five of their last eight. The Panthers cannot seem to decide on a QB as they have benched their starting QB in their last three games. I expect the Bills defense to be dominant in this one and that they will win by double digits. Pick: Bills

Arizona Cardinals (10-3) @ Detroit Lions (1-11-1) Line: Cardinals by 13 1/2

Both of these teams are great against the spread this season. The Cardinals are 9-4 while the Lions are 8-5. Arizona will be without star WR DeAndre Hopkins for the remainder of the season, however, I believe that their receiving corps is strong enough to withstand the loss. The Cardinals are also a perfect 7-0 on the road this season. Pick: Cardinals

New York Jets (3-10) @ Miami Dolphins (6-7) Line: Dolphins by 8 1/2

The Dolphins will be coming off their bye refreshed and winners of five straight games. Miami is 8-5 against the spread this year while the Jets are an NFL worst 3-10. Miami’s defense has been unbreakable allowing 10 1/2 points per contest over the course of their winning streak. I expect the Dolphins stout defense to take charge and that the Dolphins will once again cover in this one. Pick: Dolphins

Dallas Cowboys (9-4) @ New York Giants (4-9) Line: Cowboys by 10 1/2

The Cowboys had to hold off a late charge by the Football Team in their 27-20 victory last week, while the Giants took their second consecutive defeat losing 37-21 to the Chargers. Dallas is the second best team in the league against the spread this season at 10-3 and the Giants are a mediocre 6-7 against the spread. The Cowboys appear to be the much better team to me and on their way to an NFC East title. Pick: Cowboys

Washington Football Team (6-7) @ Philadelphia Eagles (6-7) Line: Eagles by 4 1/2

Despite getting their four game winning streak snapped by the Cowboys last Sunday the Washington Football Team is in control of their own destiny and currently hold the #7 seed in the NFC playoffs. The Eagles have won three out of their last four games to enter the playoff picture. Philadelphia has not played well at home this year. They have a 1-4 record in home tilts. The Eagles have been splitting starting reps between Jalen Hurts, who is trying to come back from an injury, and Gardner Minshew this week. I like the Football Team to cover in this one. Pick: Football Team

Tennessee Titans (9-4) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6-1) Line: Titans by 1 1/2

Tennessee dominated Jacksonville 20-0 in week 14. The Steelers are coming off of a 36-28 loss to the Vikings. Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger has played much better in his previous two contests than he did earlier in the season. I liked how the Steelers looked offensively in the second half of their game against the Vikings and I believe that they will carry that momentum forward into week 15. Pick: Steelers

Houston Texans (2-11) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) Line: Jaguars by 3 1/2

Early this morning came the news that Jacksonville is giving up on head coach Urban Meyer after only 13 games. This can be nothing but good news for the Jaguars because they won’t have the distraction of their bumbling head coach to contend with any more. It can only be a boost for their morale as they head into a very winnable matchup with their division foe Houston. I like the Jaguars to win a few games in the future as their schedule eases up at the end of this season. Pick: Jaguars

Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) @ Denver Broncos (7-6) Line: Broncos by 1 1/2

Cincinnati will be travelling to Mile High Stadium in Denver hurting from a heartbreaking overtime loss to San Francisco last week. Denver thrashed Detroit 38-10 in week 14. Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater has been a slightly above average starting QB this season as he is currently ranked 13th in QB rating. I like the Broncos stout defense at home this week. Pick: Broncos

Atlanta Falcons (6-7) @ San Francisco 49ers (7-6) Line: 49ers by 9 1/2

Both of these teams had big wins last week to keep them in the NFC playoff hunt. For a game with teams that have a very similar record this seems like too big of a point spread. I do think that the 49ers are the better team and will win the contest but I don’t believe that they will cover this large point spread. Pick: Falcons

Seattle Seahawks (5-8) @ Los Angeles Rams (9-4) Line: Rams by 4 1/2

The Seattle Seahawks have surprisingly not played well at home this season where they are only 2-4 this season. The Rams are 5-2 on the road this year. The line for this game has fallen after opening at 7 1/2 in favor of the Rams. This is more than likely because of Los Angeles currently having 13 players in Covid-19 protocol including CB Jalen Ramsey, RB Darrell Henderson and WR Odell Beckham Jr. Despite these potential losses I like the depth of talent that the Rams have and I expect them to cover in this game. Pick: Rams

Green Bay Packers (10-3) @ Baltimore Ravens (8-5) Line: Packers by 4 1/2

Not only are the Packers tied for the best record in the league but they are also the best team in the league against the spread this year. The Ravens could potentially be without star QB Lamar Jackson after he sprained his ankle in last week’s loss to the Browns. He truly looks to be a game time decision and this is reinforcing my decision that the Packers will be victorious in this contest and cover the spread. Pick: Packers (Pick of the Week)

New Orleans Saints (6-7) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-3) Line: Buccaneers by 10 1/2

This divisional contest will be featured on Sunday Night Football this week. Both teams won their matchups last week. The Saints drubbed the Jets 30-9. Meanwhile the Buccaneers won a close tilt with the Bills by the score of 33-27. The Buccaneers need this win to keep pace with the Packers and Cardinals for the top seed in the NFC playoffs. I believe that QB Tom Brady will want to get revenge for their Halloween loss to the Saints. Pick: Buccaneers

Monday, December 20th

Minnesota Vikings (6-7) @ Chicago Bears (4-9) Line: Vikings by 3 1/2

This was almost my pick of the week. The Vikings could have a better record than they currently do because they have not lost any game by more than 8 points this season. The Bears started the game promisingly against Green Bay as they jumped out to a 27-21 lead at halftime before falling to the Packers 45-30. I believe that the Vikings third ranked offense will prevail in this Monday night contest against a prone Bears run defense. Pick: Vikings
