Hey everyone this is Sam and let’s talk about the big story in college football. Urban Meyer turned down Texas. This doesn’t surprise me at all. Meyer reportedly told the Longhorns he is leaning towards not coaching. Remember Coach Meyer has health issues which have had him leave two programs. I can’t imagine being him and having to tell my wife, “Let’s go through it all again.” I think Shelley Meyer would divorce him.
Urban Meyer Chase
The Texas Longhorns’ chase of Urban Meyer may have come to an end. According to Horns 247’s Chip Brown, Meyer turned down interest from Texas. They reportedly reached out to Meyer to show interest after losing back to back to TCU and Oklahoma. As usual in this kind of situation, no formal offer was made. Supposedly the school was prepared to pay the coach over $10 million a year.
Meyer has not coached since 2018 and has served as an analyst for Fox. Before that he coached at Ohio State and Florida. Right now, he’s the best coach available. Texas was talking to him early in order to get started on recruiting which is one of Coach Meyer’s strengths.
Other coaches Texas reportedly has considered include: Steve Sarkisian, Mario Cristobal, James Franklin and Matt Campbell.
Penn State fans might not like who is reportedly a potential target. James Franklin coached at Vanderbilt and now coaches at Penn State. He is used to walking in and fixing issues. Coach Franklin has amassed a 57-28 record with the Nittany Lions, finishing in the top 10 three times according to The Spun. Franklin’s team is just 1-5 this season, and many are wondering if it’s the right time for him to take a new job.
What Do The Boosters Say?
Would Texas boosters pay a massive buyout to Herman if they’re not replacing him with Coach Meyer? Do they believe there is someone like James Franklin that is better than Herman? We may have to wait just a little longer.
What do you think? Does Texas keep Herman, get Coach Meyer or take someone like James Franklin? Let us know below in the comments. See you down the road.
