Alabama Takes Over
To me, it seems like the college football season just started, so how could it be this close to the end? I mean it is almost Thanksgiving. Boy, this season has been wacky. A familiar team has taken over the top spot in polls and probably has earned their spot in the College Football playoffs. They come out tomorrow.
Alabama has been in it five out of the last six years. Last year, they were beaten out by LSU on their historical run. Coach Nick Sabin has made sure that this team felt it had to prove something to everyone in college football. Alabama is the first unanimous #1 team in more than two years.
1. Alabama (7-0)
2. Notre Dame (8-0)
3. Ohio State (4-0)
4. Clemson (7-1)
5. Texas A&M (5-1)
6. Florida (6-1)
7. Cincinnati (8-0)
8. BYU (9-0)
9. Oregon (3-0)
10. Miami (7-1)
The Other Nine
Notre Dame, Clemson and Texas A&M didn’t play this weekend. The top eight positions remained the same for the 2nd straight week. #3 Ohio State barely escaped Indiana and #9 Oregon should have probably been upset by UCLA. Northwestern has rocketed up eight spots to #11. It is their highest ranking since 1996.
For a Penn State team that began the season ranked No. 7 coming off an 11-2 campaign, the Iowa loss continued a stunning fall said CBS Sports. It’s the first time Penn State has ever been 0-5.
SEC (5), ACC (4), Big Ten (4), Big 12 (4), American (2), Pac-12 (2), Sun Belt (2), C-USA (1), Independents (1)
Desert News stated, “Utah’s game against #20 USC Saturday night kind of looked like what you might expect from a team playing its season opener, in late November, against a nationally ranked opponent that had already played, and won, two games.” Utah became the 127th and final FBS team to kick off their season falling to #19 USC, 33-17.
I really think Kyle Trask from University of Florida may run away with this unless someone could make a huge quick push. He has 31 TD passes through seven games. That’s the second most in FBS history. Trask is trailing only former Texas Tech QB B.J. Symons (32 in 2003) which he should pass soon.
Ohio State’s Justin Fields threw three interceptions in their 42-35 win over Indiana. He matched his career total up until Saturday.
Mac Jones plays the highest-profile matchup of the three this weekend with #1 Alabama hosting #22 Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
Clemson vs Florida State Controversy
Clemson learned that one of their players after arriving to Tallahassee, Florida tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday night. They immediately isolated the player. Even though one player tested positive, Clemson still met the ability to play with the numbers of other players testing negative. Florida State called the game off because they didn’t want to risk getting the virus.
Then Clemson coach Dabo Swinney publicly called out Florida State for cancelling the game on Sunday. He claimed FSU used COVID-19 as an excuse since Clemson was heavily favored. The trip to Florida cost Clemson more than $300,000.
