Marlen Esparza Thinks She’ll Beat Seniesa Estrada In Their Rematch

When Marlen Esparza and Seniesa Estrada faced off last year, on the undercard of Alvarez/Kovalev, it was an evenly balanced contest, until in the fifth round an accidental clash of heads saw a huge gash open up on Esparza’s forehead.

It went another four rounds, but with blood streaming down her face in a crimson waterfall, the ref had no choice to stop it, giving the technical decision to Estrada.

Initially, Seniesa Estrada had no interest in going at it again, to see who the better woman is, but has since softened her stance, saying it would be good for the sport and that the fans had really enjoyed the first fight.

Marlen Esparza isn’t buying this.

As reported in The Ring, Esparza had this to say when told of Estrada’s comments;

She wants the rematch because the fans didn’t think she won. So she’s like, ‘Oh sh*t, I have to do this again.

I didn’t think she was going to give me the rematch,but I feel like because she didn’t get the feedback necessarily or the respect that she wanted from the win. I think she realized that she needs to.”

There even seems to be some suggestion from Esparza that the clash of heads might not have been so accidental as she laid out just how the next fight between the two will go;

I thought I was winning the fight, and I got tired (in the early rounds) which was super random because I don’t get tired. Then when I caught a second wind, I got head-butted.

I feel like I’m just going to walk over her, in all honesty. I feel like (the first fight) was legit the worst day of my life. If you couldn’t do anything to me that day, then what else do you have?”

I like both fighters, but if I had to pick then I wouldn’t be surprised to see Esparza win the rematch, as she would’ve won the first before it was taken away from her.
