Kubrat Pulev is no joke.
With a record of 28 wins and only one loss, the Bulgarian is someone that shouldn’t be taken lightly and poses a real threat to Anthony Joshua.
The IBF’s mandatory challenger recently gave an interview to Sky Sports, where he made this bold prediction when asked who was the better in the ring;
I’m way more precise than him as well as a much smarter boxer. And I will beat him. Brutally.”
He certainly wasn’t pulling any punches (sorry, couldn’t resist) throughout the piece, calling AJ a coward for choosing home advantage, promising to end the British dominance of the Heavyweight Division, as well as saying he wouldn’t be stepping aside to allow the fight with Tyson Fury to go ahead;
He can’t face Fury because he has signed a contract to fight me. Besides, in this same contract there are clauses featuring some serious compensations [if the fight doesn’t happen]. In the meantime, Fury has a contract for a third fight with Deontay Wilder. Neither me, nor Wilder will give up on these fights.”
I don’t blame him on the latter, or Wilder for that matter, as they both stand to make a huge amount of money from these fights, win or lose, and would be insane to give it up.
As for his other predictions?
I’d expect Joshua to emerge victorious from their bout when/if it happens, but as we’ve seen before with the Ruiz loss, if he isn’t focused then anything can happen and against an opponent as dangerous as Pulev if he has one eye on Tyson Fury then he won’t be World Champion for much longer.
